I love studying Korean history because the kings and high court always come off as highly relatable messy bitches. You get so much humanizing little cutscenes like this, and times where the historians were being caddy with their criticisms. At first it just seems that Koreans were uniquely led entirely by the most incompetent drama obsessed people in the world. However this is just a byproduct of how much freedom the historians had over the Veritable Records.
Korean Kings were basically the first streamers, where everything they did was scrupulously recorded by a team of historians of which they had basically no control over. The historians were provided an extreme amount of editorial control over their work and had legal protections from retribution from the nobility and kings.
The actual record of this is even funnier "The king himself rode a horse and shot arrows at a deer. However, the horse stumbled, causing him to fall off, but he was not injured. Looking around, he said, “Do not let the historians know about this”
Basically the modern equivalent of some actor on camera falling on their face, looking around in a panic and saying “Cut! Can we cut that? Please cut that in post”.
I only wish that other countries had the same dedication to recording historical events. History would be a lot more accurate and fun to read.
