How could the pro-car lobbyists do this?

apparently, there used to be a (very) short line at dumont (french research station) for moving supplies.

This sent me down a rabbit hole which was quite enjoyable. Thank you!

For the reference of others, here’s where that research station is. I couldn’t find a map showing where the tracks ran to and from.

Esperanza Base, an Argentinian station on the Antarctic Peninsula and one of the very few civilian operations on the continent, also has a (very short) railway! You can see it in the photo at the top of this page

I also heard they don’t have a single McDonald’s there. What a boring place.

What’s the point of the railway line all around the perimeter of Antarctica if there aren’t any stations?? What kind of idiot designed this boondoggle? Typical government projects smh.

Not only that, it’s infinitely long if you keep zooming in

A few brave souls are committed to riding bicycles down there at least.
