Shit rental laws and every man and their dog with a 2nd 3rd or 5th house as a “rental property”. Low density housing and poor public transport.

More than 80 housing organisations on Friday called for a national overhaul of the rental market to ease the housing crisis. They argue the federal government should establish minimum rent standards to protect Australians from cost spikes and poor-quality dwellings.

The organisations, which include tenant unions, housing providers and domestic violence services, signed a statement to the Senate’s rental crisis inquiry saying the market was characterised by “instability, insecurity, and a lack of adequate protections”.

They want an end to no-grounds evictions, limits on rent increases, basic energy standards and better enforcement of tenancy laws. They are also calling on federal and state governments to aim for at least 10% of all dwellings to be social housing.

As the article goes on to say, this is basically what the Greens have been calling for, and is the reason the Greens have been continuing to push back against Labor’s $500 million housing fund.

Fucking would kill for a Greens government.

They’re not perfect and the anti-nuclear stuff is a bit extreme (and I don’t even think nuclear is worthwhile) but they’re on the ball for 95% of it which is more than any other offering.

This has got to be caused by these foreign shadow corps buying up large amounts of real estate in other countries. It’s happening everywhere at the same time. I keep hearing about Chinese and Russian interests, but why haven’t we heard anything definitive, or seen any action to stop it?

      Um no?

Overseas ownership is like 2% of all properties sold here in Australia per year.

The largest amount of that tiny percent is from the US and UK.

Anyone blaming China is getting fed some ultra biased right wing news. The biggest problem is domestic landcunts.
