If we slow down, they are likely to slow down.

This is super relevant and TIL, the whole not slowing down because China will surpass or catch up is a massive red herring, if this is true.

Mieville became one of my favorite contemporary authors after reading Embassytown, I’ve been really impressed with his books, highly recommend. I read almost 60 books in 2025 (Blindsight was one) and Embassytown is my favorite of the year. I started using the library system instead of buying books and of the 60 books I bought two knowing I must reread in the near future; Embassytown and Lord of Light (also blew my mind especially being almost 60 years old).

Not at all, my day was a good one.

I get annoyed at people who are too dependent on apps or digital means of performing tasks of which analog is far superior.

I’ve been a prepper since pre-y2k and while I use and can thrive digitally I’m ready for the entire system to come crashing down, whether from a Carrington Event / solar flare, Kessler Syndrome or from a military / terror related attack on infrastructure. IMO being too reliant on digital tracking is a silly, wasteful and unnecessary when the old tools already work great.

I’m rooting for the breakdown so society can be rebuilt.
