If FireWire indeed is that picky about PD, I’d rather go with one of those external PCIe card/devices that connect to thunderbolt. Since I happen to have a spare PSU. Which hinges on me finding a PCIe FireWire card. 😅

Basically all my interests are frowned upon. Or maybe rather my enthusiasm? I make “exaggerated” facial expressions out of joy, which people either laugh at or “alienates” them. I am interested in so many things - and actually study them whenever I get the chance - and I feel like a freak whenever I try to share my joy about it with people.

I can’t really think of anything polarizing or having shock value at the moment, other than being ideologically a revolutionary who hates revisionism, but that’s a political topic, which you wanted to avoid.

If I lower the bar quite a bit, maybe yuri? Yuri is one of the few things that make me feel relaxed. It’s like when I’m showering: shielded from the pains of the world. Yuri specifically also helps somewhat with my gender dysphoria - until I stop reading, that is.

Good question! I have opened the unit twice now, once for dedusting and once to wipe what I thought to be the “read head” with some alcohol. A litte, white, oval protuberance. Other than that, I don’t really know what components could need adjustment. This says Head alignment is more sensitive and may require factory alignment disks.

I’m taking a break for now. I’ve had three really intensive “retro weeks” and I don’t want to get fed up with it. 😅

Probably not gonna play it because life, but other than that, I’m both stoked, amped and hyped! I recently sold all my original games and consoles for about $2K. All I need at the moment is the soundtrack. As long as I can listen to it somewhere, I’m all good for now. 😊🪉🪈

Just here for the comments, since I know of no way to disallow booting from removable media. Although I did recently come across a modern Lenovo laptop whose BIOS simply lacked the menu entry to switch boot order, boot device and anything like that…

Edit: which isn’t a problem if you do full system encryption. You can even encrypt your boot partition. And even if an adversary dumped your system from to a removable media, decrypting that wouldn’t be a viable option unless they were a nation state level actor.
