Anubis is open source, self-hosted, doesn’t block me just because I use a VPN and the later versions work even with JavaScript disabled!
Fuck Cloudflare, long live Anubis!

TIL Vimeo still exists.

From my understanding sounds like it’s just a package you can decide to just not install. I don’t see an issue with that.
On the idea of a kill switch: while I said that we won’t add a “global kill switch”, all of these capabilities will be delivered as Snaps to the OS, layered on top of the existing Ubuntu stack. That means there will always be the option of removing those Snaps - which I suppose acts as a sort of kill switch for the features we’re planning on shipping.

If you are actively blocking Cloudflare and you are still able to use the web services you rely on then I am genuinely jealous of you.

Doesn’t it say it runs on LineageOS? If so I assume you can just as easily install Signal on it.

Because they are safe! Unlike those Wireguard and Veracrypt things.

More like at least until 2027.

Nothing wrong with the statement. Federated doesn’t mean decentralized.

Why? I do use LLMs too, there is not a single service where I absolutely have to login with a Google account that I know off.
Ahh, those were the days. Putting the UVEPROMS under the sun and waiting for them to be erased to use them again. Just kidding! I am not that old. But I used to have a professor telling us stories about that sort of thing many years ago.
Yeah, then it’s another issue entirely. I have no issues with ProtonVPN itself on Linux. I use it too for certain use cases.
No issues with ProtonMail, but since a few days ago I noticed that loading my ProtonMail inbox both on the desktop app and on Android it takes ages. Also, I mostly use Mullvad, so the issue is definitely not related to ProtonVPN. I tried clearing the cache but it had no effect.

I use Nextcloud and the server is on the same network. My problem is mainly with the mobile app, I have to remember all the time to tap on the sync button just to make sure my notes are up to date. And it doesn’t do it in the background, I have to do it when I launch the app. The result is that if I open my notes while disconnected from WiFi I am stuck to whatever version it last synced.
And similarly, if I edit something on my phone while offline it will never sync, unless I remember to actually launch the app when I am back online. If only it could sync on the background like DAVx5 does for my calendar it would solve most of my problems.

Standard Notes no longer has a business model. Since they were bought by Proton they have been on life support.
Joplin is great, that’s what I use as well. I just wish syncing was a bit more seemless.
I mean what did they expect? With all those free games on a set frequency they basically trained their users that this is what Epic is for. That was their entire marketing. I don’t know a single person IRL who has an Epic account and has actually bought a game there.

The device operates within a voltage range of 1.0 V to 20.0 V and a nominal current between 7.5 nA and 33 nA, all within a compact 20 mm by 20 mm by 12 mm form factor.
Yeah, can’t even power an ESP32. Wake me up when this thing can do between 7.5 mA and 33 mA, not nA.

This one actually works a bit differently. Parents will need to install an app called Kids Wallet which will provide some kind of an API to the digital services to verify their age without revealing any other credentials to the platform. And the birth data will come directly from the Greek civil registry.
According to Euractiv, the wallet app will use the Greek digital ID of a parent or guardian, validated by TaxisNet, the country’s national authorization service. In this way, parents can use their digital ID app to request age assurance to validate the child’s identity using date of birth data from the Greek civil registry. The government says third-party applications could retrieve the child’s age via API with parental consent.
I am not an advocate for age verification laws. Quite the contrary as I believe they create a slippery slope, as at the end of the day someone has to decide that is considered “inappropriate” for children and the definition of that keeps shifting based on how is on power.
Still though, it is a lot less worse than what many US states are doing, where everyone is supposed to upload a government ID and go through KYC.

You give it too much credit. In order to be able to lie it would first need do be actually capable of understanding what it writes. LLMs are text prediction algorithms. They cannot think.
At this point I am convinced the only reason game companies use DRM is just to cover their asses legaly. I refuse to belive they are so stupid to think DRM actually prevents piracy.
