you’re talking about caching, which is not counted and does not count as in use. Closed source != magic. They don’t do anything open source stuff can’t (I still can’t believe you thought a cellular connection was magic)

more than two seasons nowadays is a minor miracle
What do you think they’re doing that requires gigabytes of ram?
Thinking having a cellular connection is significantly any more memory intensive than a wifi or ethernet connection tells me that it’s you who doesn’t have the faintest idea of anything. You’re projecting

in my laptop, not my pc, but yes. And it doesn’t make a difference. It needs a couple of megabytes of ram. Not gigabytes. A cellular modem does its thing in its own firmware, the driver side is tiny in comparison.
When you work in embedded stuff with kilobytes of ram, you learn to appreciate just how much a little memory could go. Yes, I do know, this shit is my bread and butter
my pc also has a full networking stack, just like the phone. And it has a bunch of services running. And i didn’t count cached memory for either, just what is in use at the moment.
If you had 64gigs of ram you’d want 60+ to be used as cache, not to be “in use”. And i force closed all apps except the one I’m using to write this comment.
Why is it so hard for you to believe stuff is bloated and can actually be significantly more efficient?
My phone doesn’t have all the services my pc has either…
my pc at home, which doubles as a server, which runs plex, qbittorrent and other stuff, idles at about 1.5 to 2 gigs. While signed in to kde
The phone i am typing this on is currently sitting at just under 5gigs in use, jerboa is the only open app.
