I worked on a production of RHPS last year, and I definitely think the movie reads that way from a modern lens. There was a lot of discussions about how the actors could show the audience that they were consenting to most of it. The directors skipped over consenting in the floor show (where everyone is under mind control). It was still very empowering for the cast to be out and queer, and sexy on stage in our very conservative town.
Oh? The surprise night scene w/ the husband? He consents in the new script? How lovely for everyone involved. Good thing that that was the only problematic instance. 😶
