    I think you misunderstood the definition of masking. Being a healthy autistic person who works on their flaws and who is considerate of others isn’t masking. Masking is acting like a neurotypical, not because such traits are actually beneficial, but solely because they’re “normal”.

    If someone is “masking” by not belching in public, that means they’re choosing not to belch because it’s weird. Instead, they should be choosing not to belch because others may find the sound irritating. Same behaviour, different motivation. And the motivation makes the difference whether it’s masking.
