I still use a stereo much like this with my TV. I also plug it into my DJ decks for house parties and use it as the speakers for that. No I am not joking.
I thought was AI.

No my young friend, this is what the late 90s/early 00s were actually like.
I’m an older millennial I remember these boomboxes but I don’t remember them being THIS fucked up looking lol
This is definitely a particularly intense one. Those reflex ports over the top really put it over the top.
Maximalist late 90s early 00s design was so cool. I hate how everything now is minimal or pastel. I want garish and hideous because it actually makes me feel something.
The LCD panels on these things were art. The animations and colours unmatched. Turning one on felt like turning on a serious bit of machine that went beep boop. Tech doesn’t make me think that of it anymore just silent boxes of disappointment
I live with this vibe. The wiring in my car isn’t… great. So my car radio still has the in store Fast and Furious style sales animation that cycles between cars racing on a overpass with a traffic light or something (?) and like 5 frames of someone kicking a soccer ball into a goal. All on like a 360 x 160 all blue pixel display. And it plays constantly while I drive!
They weren’t LCDs!! They were these very cool things https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vacuum_fluorescent_display
CD’s NUTS
I had to do a double take because I thought that thing was photoshopped lmao, I forgot how ridiculous these things looked.
I think you mean fun and based
I’m surprised that, in this stimulus-craving era, there hasn’t been more design backlash against the iPod/iPhone minimalism that led the late 2000s/2010s. Everything is an app, and every app should let me winamp-skin it.
Windows XP + Winamp with the silver-blue skin was peak design
Hitting rec and play at the same time on those tape decks
I’ll make you a mixtape but it’ll be on a minidisc. Damn why did they look so edible?
Yim yum
it’s beautiful 😍
i actually split my ps1/ps2 av cord so i could route the audio thru one of these bad boys. good times.
stuff like this was supposed to evoke the future but now it just evokes 2002
and the actual future is just a series of glossy black rectangles with zero buttons
I found a YouTube link in your post. Here are links to the same video on alternative frontends that protect your privacy:
I started collecting CDs recently. They are usually cheaper than vinyl secondhand. And I think they sound better. I hate not owning the music. And it just reminds me of being a teenager in 2014-2015 and hanging out with friends just to listen to an album and smoke weed.
Memories of hitting the bass boost button and listening to Dr Dre until my friend’s mom yelled at us. Good times.
