I lived in Abbotsford for a while. They have a KKK problem and the churches on every corner throw book burnings. Plus, organized crime drug wars! For a time it was the murder capital in Canada. It looks like a small, boring suburban town but it is a horrible place. The Christian right have all the political power and this is the result.

    compromised our commitment

That’s called breaking a promise. A commitment is a promise. Not fulfilling it is breaking it. You fucking broke a promise because you were afraid to deal with the truth, you faithless cowards. Then, when found out, you tried to squirm instead of actually living the open dialogue.

Admit your mistake, openly and without weasel words, then work to fix it and live up to the commitment you gave. Set an example not in the negative, but in the positive: We all fuck up some time. What matters is setting it right.

She was invited to meet with the principal, who De Meyer says told her the school was up to code.

“Im sorry you’re having trouble, but understand that we are doing the legal bare minimum to help you people out”

don’t know what you posted but if it’s anything like our mental health care I’m gonna say “not great.”

My sister is an elementary school principal and she is absolutely infuriating. she’s smart don’t get me wrong, book smarts that is. Went to university twice, got her masters, she skipped 8th grade when she was a kid.

However when it comes to common sense/street smarts…oh boy. dumb as a pile of rocks. Took her god knows how many times to pass her driving exam. Written test? no problem, aced it the first try. the actual DRIVING portion? failed it god knows how many times to the point the instructor just couldn’t comprehend how someone who knew all the rules, everything, on the written test couldn’t transfer that to actually using it. Common sesne is a foreign concept to her. Like the most basic things that you and I do in everyday life boggle her mind.

To top it all off, she hates kids. I shit you not she’s been a teacher/principal for nearly two decades and cannot stand kids. Her husband wanted children but she said no, she doesn’t want kids - to quote her “I really can’t stand children”. It’s like saying I can’t stand pizza, it makes me sick, so I’m gonna go work at Pizza Pizza and make a god damn career out of it.

My point is the principal in this case is a douche and administration is no better so reading stories like this doesn’t surprise me at all. They really pick from the bottom of the barrel to fill those roles.

Needless to say my sister and I do not get along.

Just wait until it’s privatized, it’ll definitely improve.

She certainly learned a lot about art activism, more than was intended by the course.

That principal is a bag of dicks.

TBF, if you take the Appropriate Good class you can earn a “Honored speaker” status where you the the opportunity to apply for the chance to be approved to talk for up to 4 minutes to an “action board” that meets annually on odd numbered years if the moon is waxing on the 15th.

“We are reviewing our approach to handling student speeches and written statements at public events,” he continued. "We acknowledge that altering Ms. De Meyer’s speech may have compromised out commitment to open dialogue.”

Classic stuff. “We have been caught not doing anything close to our ‘commitment’ and now we promise to change.” Just be honest and say you don’t have open dialogue and you were lying the whole time.

I guarantee the next student gets the same treatment if it is a different situation.

I feel for the teacher if they don’t have a continuing contract, yet. You’re completely dependent on staying in the good graces of your principal to have a job for the next year, and you will only be recommended for a continuing contract with the support of a principal.

But if the teacher had a continuing contract, then they probably should have told the principal to censor the student’s work themselves if they wanted it done. Or that you want the instructions to do so in writing.
