Been having a pretty rough time after a psychiatrist suddenly reversed course and refused to supply documentation I need for disability benefits. It definitely feels like a very personal instance of “you’re a useless mouth and should be dead, or at least out of the system where nobody has to think about you”.

Not the best idea but I also read pretty extensively about how bad Australia’s health system is for disabled people. Also lived through two of my grandparents being left to die by it. Also a lot of contact trauma from being on the periphery of the welfare, disability, and poverty rights movements.

So, let’s have a chat. What helps? I usually make it through immediate mental health crises but every episode of suicidal planning ratchets my preparedness up a bit more. I think I need to be more proactive about not getting to that state in the first place.

Surface messaging was “I don’t believe in DSP for young people” (I’m in my 30s and haven’t even been able to finish my degree yet due to progressively reduced study load and rapid cycling) but it’s hard not to feel like the implication is “if you can’t make yourself useful, tough luck”. First two sessions he was willing to help though so who knows.

Weird. Maybe try a different provider? They seem to have biases that might be deep ingrained in them.

Yeah, it’s just hard having to continually “shop around” for someone that will help, and do so long term. Think I’m around 50/50 for psychiatrists that are like that.

Lame. Took me forever to find a psychiatrist I liked too. And after a few years I realized he was a unironical conspiracist anti semite. So there’s that too lol.

Really have to wonder how these people keep getting licensed to practice! I know Foucault had some ideas on that 🤔

Yeah, psychiatrists are a hit and miss. I had better luck with psychotherapists, but finding someone you mesh well with can also be a challenge.
