When I returned after picking something up from the car at the old costco in Winnipeg, they wouldn’t let me in since I didn’t have my card. Only costco to treat me like that. Hope the new one has better customer service.

I’ve got to wonder – maybe it’s just part of the schtick. I’ve had similar experiences.

Aimless guess: because they’re a private club, they’re subject to a separate set of laws within the store. Like a private country club versus a public restaurant. Like, with a card check, they can’t be sued for turning away bums – it’s not discrimination, at least not legally. But if they don’t strictly enforce that, then suddenly they’re subject to all the public shopping rules – like Co-op or similar places that have memberships but don’t check.
