Amsterdam is preparing to lower its speed limits to 30 kilometers per hour. The measure will only take effect on December 8, but from Monday, the city will install almost 5,000 new speed signs, adjust 170 traffic lights, and take other “infrastructural measures,” the municipality said. It is also launching a campaign with the slogan: “We drive 30 for each other.”
The speed limit will apply to cyclists too, right? Right?
I believe the limit was already set to 30 for bikes for a few years now.
Nevertheless, if it goes on the road (and not on the bike paths), it’s subject to moped laws, and therefore should follow the upcoming limit of 30.
Bicycles don’t have a speed limit in the Netherlands. Only electric bikes can’t give any power any more above 25 km/h(but they are easily modified).
I hate it cycling and driving a car that some bikes go to fast in the city. (Mostly modified e-bikes and the classic sports cyclists) It’s really hard to calculate there speed and just gives dangerous situations. For some reason they don’t have the ability to give directions with there hands also.
That is true, but most people without e-bikes don’t reach 30+km/h in a burst, unless they’re on a road bike specifically designed to accelerate quickly. However, there are strict speed limit laws for e-bikes, not only that they can’t power above 25 km/h. Them not being enforced by the police is another thing in itself 😅
