Five years ago today my AFAB child went hard core in dressing as me for Halloween. This was their makeup test day. I was shocked when a few months later they came out to us. I am not a smart man.
But now when people find out I have three kids and ask their genders I get to say one of each and then delight in their facial expressions.
The “I’m not a smart man” sent me 😂
I’m glad you are capable of recognizing it and changing!
Initially it was a sharp learning curve and far more rewarding than it’s been hard.
Yes, this is what makes you sound like a wonderful father. That you didn’t see it as even optional. None of us are experts on things we haven’t experienced before 😊
But gosh sometimes I wish I was lol.
And to be fair the first night they asked to be called a new name I told my wife in bed no way in hell. The next morning I realized I was an idiot and told my wife we’ll support our kid no matter what and I’ll start using the name right away. So I did have my moment of not sure brightness.
You are clearly underestimating your smarts - too many people stick with their first reaction and don’t reexamine their feelings and position on issues. Your family is lucky to have you.
With the holidays coming up I’ll be sure to remind them as they select my Christmas gifts 😂
And thank you!
