    Even old New York was once New Amsterdam

    Why they changed it I can’t say

    People just liked it better that way

      The Dutch “lost” New York to the English. They surrendered when a large force of Englishmen demanded the surrender of the city. It had been awarded to the Duke of York. Hence the name.
