If you do any planning/outlining at all, do you ever scrap works at this stage? Or is it better to try writing a chapter or two of it before deciding to give up on an idea and move on?

(Personally, my struggle right now is that I’ve read too many books on story structure, so now I’m unsatisfied with outlines that I’ve made, since it’s going in a different direction than I expected. I dont know if i should go back to the drawing board or try it out to see if it plays fine as a draft)
