Arkess (Diarcesian Latin: Arcesius)

Founder of Diarcesia as its First Monarch. Originally a playwright, he survived an attempted murder by erstwhile playwright-friends, thanks to a lynx. He trekked alone and unaided until he reached a camp of outcasts and outlaws by the coast, beyond where his people, the Diarcesi, thread.

After recognizing an external threat in the form of an expansionist neighbor-kingdom, Arkess ventured to unite the stubborn city-states of his people by voice or by force. On unification, they realized that they can work together and build a society for everyone who shares their vision that should stand the test of time.

“All of you, arrayed against me, proved the undoable has been done. The Diarcesi have become united in a singular goal. Doesn’t that show that I was right?” - Quote attributed to Arkess

Aenerya Tar-Gariën

A popular light-elven hypurgess emporic (finance minister), she publicly denounced the unpopular Monarch Menelas, who chose to step down and be exiled rather than cause civil war. She presided in stabilizing Diarcesia in the aftermath of Menelas and his mother-predecessor’s misrule and crises, overhauling the government to a structure recognizable in its present-day incarnation. As a long-lived elf, she promised to retire in 40 years and adhere to the agreed-upon succession system (basically pulling off what the Romans couldn’t), which she followed through.

Because of her effort in stabilizing Diarcesia and giving a sense of normalcy to everyday life, she’s held next in regard to Arkess himself as Diarcesia’s second founder.
