Not showing nudity, sex or women objectification doesn’t make a show for kids or/and tame. Sprited away and princess mononoke have quite a lot of body horror and gore. The use of such scenes need to have a purpose and not be there for the sake of having an adult rating, horny bait/ fan service but that’s the case of most depictions and this is what I am complaining about. Let’s take for exemple another ghibli movie : the wind rises. In the movie, the woman flirt with her husband and sex is alluded. The scene serves a purpose in story and feels natural, it isn’t forced into the viewer, feels very awkward or objectify the women.

Heck, you could have an adult show that have no swearing at all so that when a character drop the f bomb during a scene you know he’s really pissed.

I wouldn’t want ghibli movies to be different, I just mean that I wouldn’t mind stuff that you don’t want kids to see. And I don’t mean ecchi stuff. I had Perfect Blue in mind when I wrote the comment. It’s not immature, not for kids and displays objectification as something horrifying. Not every anime has to be like Perfect Blue, but not every anime has to be suitable for kids. I read your first comment as a wish for any anime to be watchable with the family, but that is something I am very much against. Especially because people often take animation for a kid’s genre. It is a medium for any subject and any audience.

        I fully agree.

I think there’s a misunderstanding here. I don’t mind when such themes is used as a part of the story, what I am complaining about is the forced ecchi aspect that is prevalent in most Japanese animations. Otherwise, If you remove that, a lot of anime may as well be for kids honestly.

When I was still watching anime and a ecchi scene was randomly thrown at my face. I wasn’t like : “that’s nice” or whatever they expect me to feel, it always felt awkward and I end up asking myself what was even the point of that ?
