Well, Canada legalized it in 2019. But we allow stupid THC levels and we allow edibles to look like candy. Like everything else, people do too much.
Cannabis-attributable health harms in Canada have risen significantly since the legalization of recreational cannabis in 2018, particularly with the expansion of the commercial market. Between 2007 and 2020, cannabis-attributable hospitalizations increased by 120%, while emergency department (ED) visits rose 113% between 2007 and 2019.
Mental Health Disorders: There is a strengthening link between cannabis use and anxiety, depression, and suicidality. Regular, frequent use (two or more times per week) is now associated with a five times higher likelihood of reporting these conditions.
Psychotic Disorders: Cannabis-attributable psychosis has shown a “hockey stick” increase, with some estimates suggesting nearly 20% of cases in young males are linked to cannabis use. Daily use increases the risk of psychosis/schizophrenia two- to three-fold.
Cannabis Hyperemesis Syndrome (CHS): Emergency room visits for severe, chronic vomiting (CHS) associated with long-term, high-potency use have increased.
Cannabis-Related Disorders (CRD): Incidence rates of new CRD diagnoses, such as addiction and withdrawal, roughly doubled between 2010 and 2022, especially during the pandemic and post-legalization period.
Paediatric Poisoning: Unintentional cannabis ingestion in children saw a sharp rise, with one study finding a nine-fold increase in Ontario ED visits following the legalization of edible products
Well it’s been legalised but appears no regulation or education has been provided. They are 2 important factors. People will go crazy for a few years just cos it’s legal but slowly the charm dies down. Gen z and younger generations are changing their Attitude towards drugs and drinking. You’re always going to have problematic drug users/drinkers
I prefer the medical route, you’re monitored and regulated by specialists who know your medical history. It’s not the drug to blame, it’s the human desire for more and more, stronger and stronger.
