It’s not that it’s less relevant, only that it’s not generally considered good form in terms of web etiquette.

You can disagree if you wish (you are entitled to that right), but that is how it currently is usually.

            False binary.

In any case, like I said, you can disagree with the etiquette if you wish, but that is the ettiquette. So one shouldn’t be surprised when people disapprove of one breaking it.

Is this “etiquette” written down somewhere, or are you just using the word etiquette to describe your personal opinions about what you were hoping to read today?

Like most social rules, it is an unspoken one, so obviously not explicitly written down.

That being said, this particular piece of etiquette harkens all the way back to the classic web rule of “no necroing”, which is still a common unspoken rule in one form or another in many parts of the Web.

If you want to reference an old webpage, that’s fine, but in that case it’s best to not post it like it’s a new webpage, which is what this does.

No notice or even a single mention of how it’s over 10 years old.

You don’t like the unspoken rule, that’s fine. But don’t whine about it or act shocked when people complain.

The date at the top of the article disagrees.

50% of content in the fediverse is old reposts.

All smartphones can be infected, and surveilled/controlled without pressing/downloading anything malicious. Israeli “security” companies (NSO among others) have been selling this malware for many years, to intelligence depts. Around the globe. Probably what got Khashoggi back when.

https://bdsmovement.net/Global-Day-Action-Against-Spyware (I don’t have any dog in the Palestine/Israel conflict, and am very poorly informed on the matter).

Not the same person. I don’t read the news, and I try not to watch genocides. I’m poorly informed about most politics and pretty happy about it to be honest. Sounds like they should probably stop genociding, that’s usually a bad thing to do. But I’m not going to pretend I know what’s actually happening over there or that I can do anything about it.

And we instantly switch to political bullshit. I also have no fucking clue about the Palestine situation. Yeah, I hear people mention it, and I find stuff about it while going over completely unrelated stuff, and I choose to remain ignorant in the topic because I refuse to add more stress to my life unless there is no other option. You choose to care/follow the topic? Good for you, enjoy OT, I don’t.

How the fuck did you come to that conclusion??!

Time and place, this wasn’t it. Bibi needs to face the ICC and Israel are commiting genocide.

But don’t forget that Hamas are a terrorist organization, and the Palestinian state oppress their own people by social control.

Does that validate oppression and crimes against gumanity,? Of course not.

          Are you happy?

When you grow up, you will realize the world is not l Black and white.

Hamas has many problems but that’s all they have. Israel helped to create Hamas.

There, your so beloved nuanced take. But one that doesn’t disarm the oppresed people being systematically erased by evil colonizers and their critical supporters like you.

I see that now. Maybe my bar for decency is too low because as non-ideal ignorance may be, at least they admitted it and just focused on Israeli spyware.

Had it stopped there, I would have said the other initial responses were a tad unnecessarily harsh, but then the OP commenter dropped some real shitter takes.

On these communities and the source articles themselves. I bloody hate when the only way to find a date for reference is to find another article (or maybe dig through the site’s code).

You should look up “baseband radio vulnerabilities”.

It is still unknown how many radios have code that might allow a back door similar to Intel’s mgmt engine. But the firmware blobs are all closed, and very few ppl know what they actually contain.

If you don’t want to be tracked, get an open platform device.

And in light of the tools out there that can fingerprint you by a lot of metrics, if you truly don’t want to be tracked, at all, don’t use connected technology.

Well even good old typewriter is not safe is it…

They way you can be tracked across the web even with your device metrics alone or morbid repetetive habits is frankly… terrifying.

And how many % of the world population do you think is willing to sacrifice convenience for (passing) privacy ?

I write my own tools. Most people avoid anything beyond “click and download”

        It’s wanted behaviour. Sadly. #ForTheProfit #GiveUsYourDataOmNomNom

A snowden article what is this a time machine. I bet snowden Knowles next to nothing of any relevance anymore. He’s been out of the game for over a decade.
