Cowboy Bebop is one of my main “comfort animes” I turn it on for background noise/casual viewing almost every night. That being said, I’m by no means an expert… but I honestly don’t understand the hate the Netflix adaptation got. Was it as good as the original? No, but what is? Was it terrible? Not really.

    Maybe someone can enlighten me.

I honestly don’t understand it either, but there is that portion of the Internet that always has to be contrarians, as well as the portion of any fandom that wants to prove itself “more dedicated” than the rest of the fandom by hating on anything but the source material.

The Netflix adaptation also happened earlier than we started noticing the pattern of “review bombing” that keeps occurring with certain movies, like the new Little Mermaid movie. There’s absolutely a pattern happening that targets certain movies studios, movie subjects, and the inclusion of POC and LGBTQ folks in the productions, and then the same people getting sucked into and contributing to the review bombing will get worked up and invent conspiracy theories on why that Sound of Freedom movie doesn’t do as well as all of the films not made by a bunch of Qanon nuts.

So sure, maybe the Netflix adaptation sucked, maybe a bunch of internet assholes tanked it because they can, or maybe racial and political elements conspired together to sabotage it, I’ll leave you to your own conclusion.
