What is your favourite fact?
I don’t know if this counts, considering the community’s name, but here goes:
In the Philippines, there exists:
- an island
- in a lake
- on an island

and I, for some reason, think this is amazingly interesting :)
many species of conifer require fire to propagate - the high heat releases the seeds from their protective enclosure. this is why forest fires are beneficial to some forest environments
The distance between the Earth and the Moon is 30 times the width of the Earth.
I’m full of weird facts i learned over the years actually. So, another one: wombats have cube shaped poop.
Dogs don’t come from wolves, but dogs and wolves have a common ancestor, a wolf population that went extinct and differs from dogs and modern wolves. They still are the same species to biology standards (even with the fact of crazy breeding happening), but psychologically and which is the root of the split, they are very different and the more important change. Wolf are predisposed to being shy and hate anything novel once they are adults, dogs are very transient socially and very curious. Both being their nature how they have survived.
The temperature greatly influences the sex of Alligator eggs. Above 93F and the majority of the eggs will be male.
I think this actually also true for certain other reptiles and even some fish. Really freaking interesting.
We’re made from star dust :)
Don’t know if I have a favorite fact, but i recently learned all north American armadillos are quadruplets!
That’s fascinating, do you know why that happens?
I guess the egg always splits into four embryos after fertilization. I found their Wikipedia page surprisingly fascinating. They also can’t roll into a ball, but CAN use their intestine like a swim bladder, wtf is going with these little guys?
From Texas, can confirm that armadillos are creatures from another dimension.
