I know the joke is that that’s literally the same file from windows, and also the person tweeting it probably doesn’t live in the golden bay area (near Nelson, New zealand), but people really can just go for a walk and take a photo at that spot. It won’t look like this though unless you have a professional camera with a wide angle lens, because the cave isn’t very deep and it’s hard to get far enough back to get a framing anything like this, especially with the way the roof slopes down at the back. You gotta really crouch and cram yourself back in there, and even then it won’t look quite right.

    It’s Wharariki Beach, specifically.

For a second, I thought all this information was coming from a random shark. It made sense.

I guess that would help you get all the edges of the cave in, including the little rocks at the left of frame that I seem to recall were the tricky bit, but iirc without a special lens the ratio of cave mouth to middlingly-distant islands/rocks looks off too (the rocks take up a lot less of the cave mouth than you’d expect). I think that’s what the issue was anyway, it’s been years since I was there and I don’t have my old phone to check the photos as a reference point. I know we didn’t try panorama mode but I don’t think it would have solved the issues with proportions/composition.

You can still get some neat pictures there but I recall it being impossible (for whatever reason) to exactly replicate the composition of this one with a regular phone, even with the original as a reference and considerable effort.

I’ve seen this picture so often, it doesn’t even look like a regular photo taken with a camera to me.

Working on computing is hell. Because I’ve had to flash images into drives so many times that seeing this background gives me the most negative emotions possible.

One day working on Helpdesk, we (not me) had a call come in that asked where Microsoft got their pictures for their lock screens and they expected a real answer.

Someone with more patience than the rest of us found it and did eventually shared it. Gotta love the internal Google hotline.

Im sure this was always intended as a joke, but I’ve legitimately had people send me “their” photos/songs/videos claiming to have made it themselves, only to find the thing later in every day.

The last one was some techno Pikachu song that a friend of mine tried to pass of as their own, but I had heard it years ago on YouTube for a shitty call of duty montage.

Now they’re talented enough and the song was shitty enough that I believed they made it themselves, since they have the equipment to do so. But yeah… I’ve already heard it bruh
