Looking to upgrade my CPU (Ryzen 5 2700X) to a Ryzen 7 5800X3D, as I feel the CPU bottlenecks my graphics card (5700 XT)?

Anybody having the said setup and can say something about it?

Edit, sixth months later: I’ve recently upgraded to a Ryzen 7 5700X, and fixed issues with my RAM. Now everything runs as smooth as it should!

    I’m running a Ryzen 5 5600x and an RX. 6600XT

My GPU is around 85-99% but my CPU rarely goes about 50%

    I get between 100-144fps at 1080p

And I’m running Hunt on Linux

Hunt takes ages for me to load, and the visual experience could be way smoother. I’m running between 60 and 80 FPS, but it is not smooth at all.

What screen size are you using?

What’s your setup for running Hunt on Linux?

        I use a 27” 144hz monitor for gaming.

I used to play on windows 10 until Hunt became playable on Linux. First I used Fedora 38. Currently I’m trying Arch Linux which seems nice.

I think both your GPU and CPU are a bit weak to run Hunt at higher FPS these can also contribute to slower losing times

On which drive did you install hunt? Long loading times indicate a slow storage device. If you are using a SATA SSD or even a HDD you might also want to upgrade to M2.

I play at 1440p and I have a 5800X3D and an RTX 3090 in the (Windows) machine I play Hunt on.

Previously, I had an RTX 2080 and an AMD 3950X.

I initially upgraded to an RTX 3090 believing this would give me the best improvement to my frame rate (I was stuck at around 72 FPS to get a stable frame rate, though I generally was fine with 90 though I’d get more noticable lag spikes).

The 3090 (per my recollection) brought me up to being able to do 120 FPS on the 2080, but I’d still lag spikes that would send my frame rate down into the 70s.

I later upgraded to a 5800X3D, and after doing that, I have an (almost) flawless 120FPS. There are definitely some hard lag spikes still when the game loads new chunks; I made that a bit better upgrading to a NVME drive. However, it still didn’t get rid of these lag spikes entirely.

I’d say the 5800X3D would be the thing to upgrade in your setup based on my experience (ultimately, – and speculatively – I think the 3950X was more of the issue than the 2080 for Hunt). I wouldn’t expect perfect frames when loading into new areas though (particularly if you’re looking for 120-144hz 1440p or 4k). I’m hoping the game engine updates this fall improve the game’s performance in general (particularly with issues like map loading frame drops and map loading times).

EDIT: I’ll also add that my friend is running Hunt on Linux with a 2800X and my old 2080. I believe he’s running at a fairly stable 144hz 70-90FPS and 1440p, but I might be mistaken.
