[Disclaimer] - I am not an American and I consider myself atheist, I am Caucasian and born in a pre-dominantly Christian country.

Based on my limited knowledge of Christianity, it is all about social justice, compassion and peace.

And I was always wondering how come Republicans are perceiving themselves as devout Christians while the political party they support is openly opposing those virtues and if this doesn’t make them hypocrites?

For them the mortal enemy are the lefties who are all about social justice, helping the vulnerable and the not so fortunate and peace.

Christianity sounds to me a lot more like socialist utopia.

naive conspiracy theory believing idiots call themselves “woke”,

Both actually, except when they say it about the other side it is sarcastic as they are “woke”, not truly woke.

They tend to say a LOT of stuff, regardless of how much sense it may make. In the case of the conspiracy theory(-ies), they are the ones who are “Awake” to the possibility, while everyone else remains “Asleep” with their eyes closed to “the REAL Truth”.

Remember, these are the same type of people who call themselves “Pro-Life”, without batting an eye. So… yeah, they unironically do exactly that.

“Woke” as a non-pejorative means “I started paying attention and realized our systems are bigoted and oppressive.” As in “wake TF up”.

There is no “both actually” here… someone either “woke” (aware of institutionalized injustice and desirous of fixing that) OR totally ambivalent (part of the problem/the reason these injustices continue to exist) OR a bigoted chud trying to use the word as a pejorative (but only succeeding in to everyone else that they are a racist, bigoted, scumbag).

The right appropriated it because appropriating leftist terminology and misusing it is a critical part of the Ur-Fascist playbook.

Correct, just like the “Pro-Life” designation, someone either IS “Pro-” aka “for” peope’s “Lives”, or they are not.

But what people CALL themselves is a whole other thing entirely. Never forget, the Nazis originally, and unironically (in their own minds at least), called themselves “socialists” (reference). And people STILL believe it, DECADES later.

But that is the thing about Facts: they are either True or they are not, and yet what words come out of someone’s mouth does not necessarily have to reflect that Truth.
