Yeah, why not cue up the next excuse for 6 thousand people getting laid off through no fault of their own. This market sickens me.

Turns out that we already have games that are good. I wonder why they’re making games that expire these days.

I’ve got bg3, game pass (meh), and a shit ton of epic indie/small developer games. Rent has gone up, gas is up, groceries are insane. I’ll be half with what I have.

What I’m reading there is that they expect gamers to spend less because there are fewer blockbuster titles this year than usual, and so gamers probably won’t spend as much.

However, I’m guessing that at least some of that money will go to smaller studios and indies instead, so it should be a good year for them.

Retailers, of course, are the ones that lose out, especially since those smaller games don’t usually ever sit on a shelf.

And all of this is ignoring the fact that there was just a huge bubble in the game market because of Covid, and sales are still better than pre-Covid.

Yeah, because I spent all of my gaming budget by March.

Why the fuck did Japanese devs decide to release Tekken 8, Final Fantasy Rebirth, Yakuza Infinite Wealth, and Persona 3 Remake within like a month of each other? Add in Helldivers 2 as well, and my wallet is basically dust.

Some people have this weird idea that big economic shake up (in this case, “people spending less money on games” is an economic shake up for the game markets) will magically only affect major companies.

Sorry, a recession means mom and pop stores (dev studios for this version) close while the giants keep going because they can operate at a loss for years without going under.

Smaller studios will fold long before ubisoft/ea/whoever is the current focus of ire.

In my fantasy everyone will crash. Small studios, big studios, all publishers. Everyone.

And then studios with creative new ideas will rise from the ashes while big studios making games solely for their investor’s income will stay down. It will be a better industry afterwards. With nicer studios and more creative ideas.

… this is unrealistic, I know.
