  • Exactly what it sounds like. People describe it as pretty close to chicken (which makes sense) though I find it is closer to turtle, especially texturally. The tail meat is particularly close to chicken. If you have never tried it, it’s pretty good. So are the legs. It is quite lean though, so you may need to add some fat from another source.

I have heard people used ground alligator mix in minced blends alongside a fattier meat for burgers sometimes, but I haven’t tried it myself.

  • They’re less common but they definitely are depending on availability. I have alligator steaks in my freezer right now even. Bears (true these are omnivores, but they definitely have periods of more carnivorous activity as in the video) are pretty common in my country, even during the seasons where they are primarily on a carnivorous diet.

The safety point is reasonable as that is true, though can be easily offset these days. The deliciousness I would disagree with, because I have had some delicious predators before (see alligator steaks). They seem to acknowledge as much as this. Though I will say, I have never had any type of feline that I particularly enjoyed the taste of.

I think their last point about efficiency is maybe the most likely as to why they weren’t historically consumed, and that has just lasted for cultural reasons.

  • I am mixed, it depends on what I am trying to do and also if I paid anything for an app.

“Free” apps in the west are just a marketing case-study and trying to funnel me into as many additional purchases as it possibly can. Chinese is maybe an overwhemling amount of information, but often at least more relevant. It also tends to make a lot more sense for somebody who is engaging with mobile devices primarily, rather than as an extension of a home ecosystem (which the video does touch on a bit).

It also makes perfect sense to have a “one size fits all” app approach in an environment that doesn’t need to parcel your attention out over a bunch of different companies.

“Premium” apps that I already bought into, I admit I often prefer the minimalistic style of design more. That could also just be me, I prefer that in the way I decorate and organise most things I do, digitally and in real life.

  • Welcome, we sometimes get a touch defensive because folks often come in with outright hostile intentions and no desire to learn. However, most of us were probably in the same shoes as you at some point. I am not an admin here but I think I can say you would be welcome as long as you have an open-mind. We don’t require people all be MLs (Marxist-Leninist, probably the most common branch of communism most of us subscribe to) necessarily.

I remember back in my social-democrat days coming across some online communist communities that I was initially dismissive of, because of all the anti-communist indoctrination I had been subjugated to all my life. A few conversations lead to reading a few books, lead to where I am now.

A nice thing is we can often criticize each other without becoming instantly defensive, because we generally realise we are all in varying degrees of learning/studying still.

  • Not this one, but a few months ago they started shipping the 3A6000 (on a 7A2000 board) through AliExpress. I am pretty sure we had an article here somewhere about it. They were fairly priced (processor + board for something like 350 USD) but not super high end. Which makes sense, you don’t target high end professionals first.

I briefly entertained making my new PC from all Chinese components, but decided to give it some more time. I have little doubt I will be happy to do that not too long from now.

If you want to try it just as a fun project for a secondary PC though, you absolutely can source most of the parts from AliExpress. Russian chiptech isn’t to the level of China, so I don’t think you will find much there. Not yet at least.
