If your standard for being an elitist is that people can be bothered saying/knowing their distro’s name then the bar is on the floor and the criticism is worthless.
Maybe try re-reading what I wrote?
The standard is “assuming using a specific distro’s name makes them better somehow”, because you think that someone could be ashamed of admitting what distro they’re actually using.
This is just wrong. Its terrible etiquette to go on the arch forum and ask for help and not mention that you’re on cachyOS?
Again, re-read what I wrote. I didn’t say “troubleshooting”, I said “troubleshooting packages”. CachyOS uses pacman, and Cachy users install stuff from AUR exactly the same as Arch-Arch users.
You probably think im an eltist because i dont call this place reddit when someone asks what im browsing.
If this place used Reddit’s infrastructure, and was essentially a skin with a couple of extensions added on top, and if you were discussing generic social-media themes, yeah, it wouldn’t be a problem to call it Reddit.
But since Lemmy is none of that, it would make no sense, it’s fundamentally different.

Visiting the Store via Heroic adds Heroic’s affiliate link, so they get a bit of money for every purchase you make there.
I think reinventing the wheel is pointless. Just indicate that Heroic Games Launcher fully supports GOG, put that on GOG’s website, job done.
achievements have been a monumentally bad thing for gaming and culture
LOL, I’m sorry, what? :D
Please elaborate!

What’s the issue here?
The hunt didn’t produce the expected HoH margin, we need to do better! What’s that? The village is drowning in unused meat? I don’t care, stagnation is death, the HoH margin must go up!
Yeah, my wife would turn it on when she’s in an “uncertain” neighbourhood.
The whole premise here was that people are being told something
Where did you get that from?? The premise here was that someone (you? Can’t remember) said that “it’s obvious” that someone from the .ml instance would have certain views. Who tells the majority of people on the Internet what kind of instance .ml is?
If somebody’s repeatedly told that they’re probably a lunatic because of the .ml attached to their name they’ll know something’s up.
Super heavy vibes of “if someone’s repeatedly told that they have thick skin and don’t need painkillers because of the dark skin, they’ll know it’s true”.
We need a new name for this - “racism” but towards people using the 'incorrect" Lemmy domain.
This isn’t about not telling people, this is about treating people like they know what they’re doing and telling them
Exactly! “It’s common knowledge that black people have night blindness” vibe.
You say we can’t expect people to know the symbolism they surround themselves with
What is the “symbolism” of the .ml instance? Look at what a new user sees when they get there - their sidebar description and their rules, and show me where the symbolism is that makes them the “undesirable” instance.
I’ll, however, assume that the next person I see wearing a swastika is, in fact, a lunatic moron, and not just a poor fella who unknowingly made a wrong pick in the thrift store.
I’ll, however, assume that the next person I see wearing a swastika is, in fact, a lunatic moron, and not just a poor fella who unknowingly made a wrong pick in the thrift store.
Comparing the .ml domain to a swastika is just peak Lemmy delusion. Get help, friend, go outside. There’s life outside the Internet too!
You can always assume people do stuff knowingly
Only if you really, fundamentally, don’t know people.
They usually tell you that they didn’t if they didn’t.
Yeah, you just non-stop get these interactions where someone who has absolutely no clue about what kind of company Nestlé is grabs you by the shoulder and goes “I only bought Nescafe because there wasn’t anything else in the store, I swear!”

if somebody knowingly buys nestle
How do you know if they do it knowingly?
It sounds the same because it is the same thing!
Are you saying that if you see someone eating a Nestlé product, you just punch them in the face? Or call them names? Or, if it’s a family member/friend, you immediately cut them off? Because they should’ve done their research?
I think this is not “having trouble sleeping”, this is “having trouble going to bed”.
The way it works with me is that I just need some “me” time after a day of activities. Normally I get back home around 5-6 PM, so I do some chores and then have 2-4 hours for myself. If there are other activities - or more chores - forcing me to start the “me” time later, then I won’t just skip it, I will still sit the 2-4 hours at my PC, I’ll just do it at the cost of my regular sleep time, and go to bed at 2AM instead of at midnight, for example.
@jornkard@sh.itjust.works - dude, why would you downvote my comment…?
Holy shit, are you serious…?
You expect Joe Average and Jane Random to not only have to deal with Fediverse’s fragmentation, not only have to figure out which instances are actually maintained and relatively active, you expect them to also research the politics of each instance before they sign up? And it’s not just that you expect Joe Average, and Jane Random to do that, you’re so certain they actually do it, that you’re perfectly comfortable assuming every single .ml user has identical political views and stances?
Am I getting this right?
No, no, look - they are pro-life. Just not this life in particular. This life can go fuck itself.

I just have that in my browser. If I type
