  • BMW has had lane assist (I believe standard) for a few years now. As others above have said, it gives resistance and visible feedback with varying degrees of force if you try to change lanes without a blinker. Many others makes now do as well.

Essentially, in a 2018 or newer model BMW it is a pain in the ass to change lanes - even on an empty road - if you don’t use a blinker. And it probably snitches on you to your insurance company if you frequently make the light come on.

As for the lowered 2011 3 series with the loud exhaust and not quite right looking M badges passing you in a cloud of strawberry mountain dew flavored vapor, well… yeah what do you expect. The forest of little tree air fresheners makes it hard to see through the rear view anyway.

  • He owed an Austin Martin dealership. The car is a rare model worth far more than its sticker.

From what I understand about the new car business, I’d almost guarantee this car was floorplanned / purchased by the dealership itself (which he owned) and which then sold it for the final and ludacris sum listed.

I don’t doubt he is an out of touch candidate, with zero connection to his constituency and probably terrible ideas on governance, but this storey itself is slightly less remarkable than the headline suggests.

  • Excel wouldn’t stop converting sku numbers to date formats. IT guy was excited to share an “easy fix” for that with Open Office…

When I saw his genuine excitement as he described Linux, plus the security it provided I realized, if I ran Linux I’d have the best support in the company. And I did.

I eventually had to move on from Linux at work after 10yrs or so but it’s all I run at home.

All because of Excel and those fucking date codes. Which yes, Open Office solved as advertised.

And yes I know you don’t need Linux for that but it was a long time ago.

  • I never played Fallout. Really enjoying the show.

I would say it definitely has a video game feel, that is they’re on a quest, within some kind of a side quest, additional characters seem like NPCs, and the chase just seems to go on.

No real complaint in that, it might be the best story version of a video game I’ve seen, but once you pick up on it it’s hard not to shake the thought.

  • How would the Borg respond to force mind influence? Would it be easier for a Sith to control them because they’re essentially already broken or is the science just to strong for their magic?

The Sith cultivated amulets and talismans that enslaved and transformed beings into hive mind subservient (basically vampire) clones, the Borg seem like a pre-built template for that. All the better if the Borg clones are secretly awake inside but powerless to change. That kind of suffering is like crack to old man Palpatine.

Death Star vs Cube(s) and outright conflict I think Borg have the almost certain win, but the force wielders are a wild card to me.

  • Would Stormtrooper helmets and their (near worthless) armor at all prevent or counter the Borg assimilation tech by the drones?

Would a pissed off and ambitious Sith like Vader see the Borg tech and instead of fleeing attempt to board the cube and take control through force manipulation or just endless light saber rampage?

I think the mass teleportation strategies from the Borg could also create a near bloodless or at least low body count victory if they quickly and decisively took control of the bridge, then had the remaining crews report to their barracks for some "equipment"upgrades. In a sense, the Empire have created a drone-like society and Sith overlords love that shit.

  • As a car enthusiast, I would accept all new cars being white to combat global warming. I wouldn’t like it, but the payoff could be quick and impactful if done at scale and over time. At least white roofs/hoods/trunks. And if moonroof then white interior.

Same with roofing/siding on buildings houses where possible.
