Dems wanted a healthy population to save money, Republicans want a healthy population so they can join the military to kill and die for imperial interest.

They aren’t just lying, they’re actively disdainful of the bodies questioning them. I think they’re daydreaming of the point in the coup that they can throw them all in prison for sedition.

In specifically small arms, I’m not so sure. I’d bet that the American public buys enough firearms every year to arm every American soldier two or three times over. Ruger and PSA aren’t competing with Raytheon and L3Harris.

They are also doing it because they know they are deeply unpopular with the non-fascist public and risk being overrun by a crowd if they only have 2-3 thugs on it. Need enough people on a perimeter explicitly threatening to gun people down like they did with Floyd.

2020s AK market is a fuck. At the bottom end you’re gonna pay $8-900 for a beater WASR that was $350 twenty years ago, or go with Zastava or WBP and roll the dice on QC to varying degrees. Oh, and you’re gonna pay more than 5.56 for 7.62x39 for a change.

For practical purposes it’s basically not worth it to run an AK over an AR because the cost parity is so skewed now. Collecting, sure, but the “AK user” is becoming a dying breed.

They use in absentia trials to declare people enemies of the state a lot. The author of the Metro series of books-turned video games has a hefty jail sentence on his head for speaking out against the war, but he fled Russia years ago. At its most practical I guess it’s to thinly justify detaining and abusing them on sight.

The moment Demon Miller got on CNN or whatever and said to the host he was belittling “We live in the real world where what matters is strength”, every single one of our allies should have started drafting and updating plans on how to kill American soldiers and wage war against the US.

I believe that was one of the most foreboding statements that has come out of the administration so far. A blatant admission that they do not care about laws or ethics, only strength of arms.

She was put there to demoralize and delegitimize the very ideas of honesty and accountability from the executive as well as the press that tries to extract it, this is no accident or fumbling. In her shamelessness she’s just better at it than her, what, five predecessors?

Sooner or later when they seize enough power they’ll remove all press access for anyone who isn’t a complete state-sactioned stooge, or just dispose of the function altogether.

By that time the “minute men” were already a fairly well armed and organized militia, as far as militias go. I see no viable parallel today, even in nascent form.

Any armed group greater than around four people is compromised by federal law enforcement, the far right learned this decades ago.

I care what happens to them, just not in the way they’d prefer.

The majority of people who support ICE believe that the people who don’t are traitors and not real Americans who deserve to be cast aside if not punished. They are never going to be swayed by fact, let alone public opinion.

They won’t be ambassadors by then, they will either agree to become quasi-military emissaries to negotiate concessions and surrenders to our dominion, or they will be retired or just killed.

People are helplessly attached to a sense of normalcy and security even if they are illusions. Letting them go is extremely distressing for most well-adjusted people. Some would sell out their own family to keep it.

DHS has more resources at their disposal than most militaries now. They will give it a damn good try.
