Good question. On the one hand, yeah, it’s a despicable career. On the other, we all have to survive under capitalism. If that’s what you’re trained to do, get that bag, but you better also agitate to destroy the machine that makes defense companies so lucrative. And heck, I’m not advocating for anything, but having some communists working on these crucial bits of US military equipment could be…interesting

To your first question, not a chance. Too far up their own ass. To your second question, they’ll continue to assert they are the only rational actors, or “the adults in the room.” Which is funny because they all have a child’s understanding of the world

Mostly we need our orgs to shake the accusation that they’re tailing the democrats or too heavily invested in electoral politics. CPUSA has real trouble with this. I’m not saying these accusations are accurate, but if so many people come to that conclusion we’re doing something wrong. I think part of it is the associated publication, People’s World. Some of those articles are absolute trash and really harm the party’s image

I wrote up a response to a similar question elsewhere, so I’ll paraphrase here. Our job is to fight fascism at home and support fraternal organizations abroad by joining and working with our domestic communist orgs. We can’t help the revolutionaries in the global south alone, but inter-organization solidarity is very useful and there are often concrete initiatives we can get involved in!

Just CPUSA at the moment, though I’ve spoken at a couple DSA meetings. I don’t like to go too hard with any one group because I don’t want people to feel like that’s the only option for them to join. I like to see people join whatever org is in their area, or whichever one resonates the most with them

Great question! I’ve spoken to a lot of people over the years, and in my experience most of them are very receptive so socialist ideals until you mention the s-word. That’s to be expected, but it’s always annoying to have to change gears and defuse potential objections. If you can just plant that tiny little seed of “huh, he’s a good guy and he’s a socialist…maybe they’re not that bad,” you’ve won a tremendous victory. As far as specifics go, I’ve had a couple past coworkers reach out over the last few years and say that they’re now socialists because of my work, which is really cool. I think having that personal connecting when talking about socialism can really help break down those deep-seated ideological barriers. As far as I know there isn’t any one thing I’ve said that has won someone over, it’s always more of a process of learning and self-reflection.

I’ll definitely mention AMAs to the others, I’m sure they’d be happy to do one if they can find the time!
