  • The literal only argument here is just “I don’t have to use a bunch of Google tabs anymore because ChatGPT can lie to me all in one place!!” lmao

Like, the only way this works is if ChatGPT is literally always correct at all times (which will never be the case fundamentally), because otherwise it’s even worse than the existing process of just using Google because it’s just another step before you end up needing to do that anyway

This isn’t even one of those “oh in the made-up future where ChatGPT is magically perfect, this will be useful, therefore we should support AI-bros right now so we can get there” types of things, this is just assuming that ChatGPT in its current form is somehow a good research tool which is just about the opposite of the case

  • Oh I don’t have a front basket on mine actually, I’m just dangling my helmet off the handlebar in that photo (unless you meant to reply to someone else like OP)

But I know you can get aftermarket front baskets/racks, just be careful if you get a mountain bike or something because not every front rack works with bikes that have front suspension (since the lower part of the fork moves up and down on those)

Personally I prefer a rear rack with a detachable pannier bag, my bike came with the rack (since that’s where the battery goes in on this one) and I got the bag cheap enough on Amazon, I can wear it over my shoulder when I get where I’m going and then just clip it back on the bike when I leave, you could also attach a basket or milk crate or whatever, which I gotta start doing eventually so I can carry more groceries

It also came with the fenders too, though of course those can also be bought aftermarket for bikes that don’t have them

Only other thing I wish it came with was lights, a lot of ebikes are capable of having their lights be directly powered by the motor’s battery so you don’t need to charge them separately, I’m using USB-charged ones for now which I gotta worry about separately

  • I love ebikes!!

Here’s mine!! It normally isn’t glowing, but I had the LED tape on it for a group ride a few months ago and I still love how it looked then, it cycled through trans flag colors and everything 😊

I don’t have my license quite yet and our public transit kinda sucks so I’m reliant on this thing to get around a lot of the time, I still definitely plan on continuing to use it once I have my license though

There’s a grocery store nearby that I can get to in less than 10 minutes on this thing on a mixed-use “shared sidewalk” and I love doing it even though I can’t carry all that much (I could use another bag, and I should probably strap a milk crate on sometime)

  • If it isn’t the biggest harassment campaign on the internet, then it’s at least one of them

My thought about the person herself is that while she’s a pretty garbage person, it’s very clearly a result of the world around her treating her like shit on every level for basically her entire life, she grew up in a horrifically abusive right-wing household just to end up in constant attack by the worst people the internet’s had to offer, with those people shaping every aspect of her “growth” from that point forward, to the point of the 4chan harassers even going so far as to give her multiple fake friends and people trying to “help” her just to end up being part of the harassment campaign so that she can’t even know who she can trust even among people she knows IRL

Just a shitshow on every level and it’s undeniable that she’s a massive victim here even if she hasn’t exactly been a good person herself (but again, that’s largely because of how she’s been a victim the whole time)

(I think CWC still uses she/her? Someone correct me if I’m wrong, it’s been absolutely ages since I last checked for obvious reasons, I don’t like looking into this stuff lol)

  • Not sure that’s really relevant, the US government could very well deal with situations like this if they wanted to, it’s just that they don’t want to because they are not pro LGBTQ as a whole

It’s very important to point this out too, because the idea that global south countries should be attacked for being queerphobic doesn’t actually exist because the US supports queer people, it’s just using pinkwashing as another way manufacture consent for imperialism among another demographic, people who pinkwash things like this are not actually supporting queer rights themselves when they do so (many people and organizations who do so are in fact actively queerphobic)

  • I read your whole comment, but to be honest, I’m not really sure where to begin with this, because it doesn’t seem like you actually understand the situation and are making weird assumptions based on that misunderstanding

Hyprland isn’t the only window manager, there are others, it’s not like it is an essential part of Linux everyone must use.

I am really hoping you simply haven’t read into the context of this, because in case you’re not aware, this is not about hyprland the software at all or people contributing to it, this is about its main developer contributing to freedesktop.org projects such as wlroots (a Wayland compositor framework used by multiple projects including hyprland)

enforcing basic code of conduct rules

That they wrote themselves and want to apply everywhere. Obviously I’m not for insulting people because of sexual preferences, ethnicity, etc. but we don’t need liberals with a “Code of Conduct” to “protect” people. If a person doesn’t like a community, they don’t have to join it.

As I mentioned, this isn’t about other people joining hyprland, it’s about freedesktop.org, one of the most important organizations in the Linux ecosystem because it’s responsible for many foundational components. Codes of Conduct (along with enforcement of those) are an essential safety tool in these kinds of community, as you simply can’t tolerate Nazis and their ilk in a community like this without them forcing out all of the people who would be targeted by someone like that, who do exist in this community (the person enforcing the CoC in this instance being one of them)

The creator of Hyprland obviously isn’t bothered by having these alt-right/Nazi types in the community and hasn’t been willing to remove them. These liberals certainly won’t make him change his mind …

This doesn’t matter, because it’s not about hyprland, that guy can fuck off to his Nazi cave as far as I’m concerned, we aren’t trying to change hyprland. This is about this person trying to make himself at home in an organization full of the kind of people he targets, who will be under attack if someone like him is allowed this leeway. Those people are already part of this community and need to be kept safe, would you rather they be forced out?

US and NATO are also very pro-LGBTQ, does that mean we need to side with them against African and SEA countries who don’t have a good LGBTQ track record?

To be honest, I find this to be an extremely bad faith interpretation of my comment, and makes it sound like you didn’t even read what I wrote. Again, this is not about liberals using the aesthetics of “queer rights” to manufacture consent to attack the global south, this is a community full of queer people banning an outright Nazi because he is a threat to them. This isn’t about creating the image that the community is supposedly safe for queer people when it’s not, it’s about ensuring the safety of the queer people who are already here and contributing in major ways.

I have to be clear here, your comment is not some principled stand against imperialism, it is very close to being a defense for outright Nazis just because the people they’re targeting for being vulnerable minorities happen to be liberals (you know, like most people in the west), and I really hope that this is just because you have some kind of misunderstanding of what’s actually going on in this situation.

  • I have to be honest comrade, when the events that are going on are “a trans person is being harassed by one of the biggest bigoted serial harassers in the community for enforcing basic code of conduct rules”, I think this kind of comment is unnecessary at best and harmful at worst, this is not a “both sides” issue by any means

This person you showed isn’t even the freedesktop member responsible for the decision

Edit: To clarify, this isn’t a “liberals vs alt-right” two-sided conflict, this is a “Nazis attacking vulnerable minorities” one-sided conflict, if this kind of behavior from Vaxry is tolerated and allowed then that puts all such people in the community at risk, including people like us

  • Oh wow, that thread wasn’t around last time I checked (when I made my post in the weekly megathread), it really does go to show how the other thread is just entirely brigading when there’s a clear community consensus in the thread you mentioned of how fucked up it all is

Honestly, I think /r/linux is somehow less of a cesspool than the Lemmy equivalent most of the time lol, though at least it so far hasn’t had this kind of brigading issue

  • Exactly, people still have this cartoonish idea of what a Trump presidency would be like as if we didn’t have 4 years of seeing exactly what it would be like

People are like “but maybe he’ll be worse this time!”, and like that could be true, but that’s an entirely different thing than making very specific assumptions about specific actions he’s supposedly going to take based on no actual evidence, it’s just fearmongering to try to coerce people into reelecting a president who has already been actively materially worse (it’s as if everyone’s forgotten how much trans rights in the US have already been backsliding under Biden’s watch)

  • Someone I follow(ed) on Mastodon was just trying to shame people who don’t vote, because of the idea that “Trump is going to immediately round up all us trans people and throw us in camps if you don’t vote Biden!!”

As far as I can tell, the claim seems entirely made up, and it feels almost malicious to be basing that entire decision around the idea that “Trump MIGHT come after ME hypothetically!!” rather than all of the people Biden has already thrown in camps and all of the people in Gaza that Biden has given his unconditional support to genociding

It feels downright selfish to still be pushing that “vote blue no matter who” bullshit for that reason, and they clearly haven’t learned shit from 2016 and 2020

They’re also still under the impression that people choose not to vote just so that they can “push the Democrats more progressive”, when it’s basically the opposite, people realize they can’t push the Democrats left so they’re choosing not to participate in the sham they call a “democracy”, but I guess this is one of those people who can only see politics within the confines of the US electoral system

Edit: Not to mention all the other shit people have mentioned as having been actively worse under Biden, it makes it feels especially garbage and selfish that one is still pushing the idea of Biden being a human rights savior

  • That’s not mentioned in this specific blog post, but that’s always been one of Vanilla OS’s defining features, it’s “apx” package manager to install those various types of packages

It’s even using Distrobox actually, but the point is to make it simpler to install packages for those contrainers, with the user not worrying as much about managing the individual containers, and not having to memorize the specific commands for each individual distro’s package manager

Basically, like the rest of Vanilla OS, the point isn’t that you can’t do this stuff elsewhere, it’s that it’s trying to make it easier to do it
