science@lemmy.world•Neuroscientist warns Gen Z first generation less cognitively capable than their parentsEnglish
141·3 days agoIt’s the difference between understanding the concept vs understanding the material. Someone shows you how to use a hammer to whack nails into a piece of wood, it’s up to you to decide it can also crack walnuts, smash car windows to steal visible bags and items of high value, makeshift mortal and pestle, etc.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•If a doctor told you your unborn child has a 99% chance of severe downs syndrome, to the point where they would need constant care until the day they die. Do you think it's ethical to abort?
3·5 days agoI had business ethics so it was boring questions like “should we advertise to kids” or “do cigarette manufacturers have souls”. But ya this seems to be pretty divisive so far.

43·6 days agoI mean more like “is a life of suffering worth living and would a parent want that for their kid” rather than the ethics of abortion

92·6 days agoI don’t mean in a her body her choice kinda way, I mean is it more ethical to let them live their natural life knowing that they would possibly suffer immensely vs not letting them live a life at all

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•I feel like I've never heard of a dog getting pink eye, do they get pink eye? I would have thought pink eye would be more common with dogs constantly sniffing arses?
1·9 days agoBut they shove their faces in butts all the time and they got all that fur to carry klingons

3·8 days agoI’ve never had a dog which is probably why I was wondering this

7·10 days agoMmm. Used to misdirect hate and anger towards a group of people who mostly don’t have the means to defend themselves because they’re down on their luck already. Social scapegoats.

15·10 days agoI guess a lot of people who haven’t gone through some serious shit in their life really do find it difficult to accept how bad some people have it

5·10 days agoI’m not advocating for self medication but I’m saying there are legitimate uses for drugs, especially with mental health problems. Hell even ketamine, mushrooms, and LSD are accepted forms of therapy in this day and age.

2·10 days agoYes but how many meth heads do you know that randomly decided to do it one day for the hell of it? I’m sure there’s some out there but 99.9% of the time it’s going to be someone in such a bad situation that they don’t care about the long term consequences, they just want to not suffer.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Why does it seem like the majority of people think problems are caused by drugs rather than problems causing people to turn to drugs?
17·10 days agoI’m in no way saying drugs will fix problems (majority of the time), I’m saying drug abuse should be treated as a symptom and not a cause
