Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•It's 2026, which tech did you realistically think we would have by now?English
5·4 months agoI was hoping that by now technology and education would have helped all the humans to realize how to take care of each other and work together for a better tomorrow.
Instead we got this fucking mess that’s going on right now all around the world.

The Art Alchemist's Guild@lemmy.today•How to Make Olive Oil Soap and the Chemistry Behind ItEnglish
2·4 months agoI’ve made soap couple of times. I was surprised how easy it was.surprisingly. The recipe was very basic with olive and coconut oil and lye. Can’t remember the proportions anymore. One time I also used some dry Rooibos bits to get some texture and color. The last soap bar is in use so it would be time to make some more soon.

Music@lemmy.world•If I like: Portishead (and Beth Gibbons), any recommendations for more?English
5·1 year agoHere is a list of some songs that give me similar feelings that Portishead does. They are not exactly like Portishead, but IMHO definitely worth a try.
Massive Attack - Unfinished Sympathy, Massive Attack - Teardrop, Röyksopp & Alison Goldfrapp - Impossible, Röyksopp - Vision One, Saint Saviour - This Ain’t No Hymn
Massive Attack is closer to Portishead, but they don’t have female vocals on all of their songs. Röyksopp goes to a bit different direction but they have many songs with different female vocalists that might be something you like.
I also recommend Linux Mint. It’s been hands down the best experience of all the Linux distros I’ve tried.
The installation is done with a USB stick. In short, you download the Linux iso image and create a bootable USB stick with a software. In Windows I have always used Rufus for that.
The Linux installer gives you a choise to wipe everything and install Linux. Installing Mint has always been very straight forward.
I can’t comment on hardware since I’ve only used Linux on +5 year old laptops. They seem to work fine.
There most likely will be many new things that can feel confusing in the beginning, but I’m sure you’ll get the hang of it. There also are tons of good tutorials of everything.
Best of luck to your Linux project!
Thank you.
It’s interesting to read about your practice and experiences. I was gravitating towards similar direction, but wanted to know how the others have done it. My infrequent meditation practice so far has been just mindfully observing breathing, so I felt unsure what to do with Flower Fresh.
It also felt surprisingly effective just to silently reapeat the verse once breathing in and out while I was listening to the audiobook.
Thank you.
