Meanwhile, an ancient Brother wifi laser printer that I haven’t used in 3 years and frankly forgot I had, moments after I clicked on it instead of “print to pdf”: whirrs to life 3 seconds later and prints a perfect smudge-free copy

I’m not going to claim to be a privacy/security expert here, but I think the question is “safe from who/what?” Privacy is a sliding scale with diminishing returns, so you need to set your expectations according to the level of effort you are willing to put in.
If you just want to not be tracked/profiled by commercial big data or standard governmental operations, then an old phone with no sim, wifi/bluetooth turned off, and using wired headphones removes you from a couple tiers of lowest-hanging fruit.
But if you think someone is specifically and actively tracking you in particular, that is a whole other question.
When I see that graphic, I can instantly and vividly taste the not-quite-cold water in a tiny cup from the water cooler at the doctor’s office.
I think it’s the bit of wax flavor those cups used to have.

Not sure whether to upvote you because I got the joke, or downvote you for comedic effect

As long as I can get kerf delivered my door in a square cardboard box when I’m too high to drive, I’m here for it.

The only doom code I need or want is IDDQD.
Or maybe IDNOCLIP if I want to figure out how they made that map.

5·7 days agoI guess i can kind of see that, especially if you stopped listening to them around 2005 or so. The songs about working class people, drinking, fighting, and the old country would all appeal to the typical right-wing dipshit with their own idea of what solidarity means.
I’m a relatively recent transplant to Chigacoland so I feel a bit of an instinctive need to defend deep dish. But really, its more of a love for all forms of pizza.
New York style? Hell yes Chicago style? Two slices and long nap, but still hell yes Detroit style, tavern style, California style, thin crust, thick crust, stuffed crust? Yes yes yes yes yes and yes!

Honestly, I don’t think your edit is crazy at all. I have a hunch that all the fake, filtered, AI-processed, vtuber’d social media is going to result in a sharp backlash soon. Kind of like how over-the-top, image-focused glam and heavy metal of the 80s spawned a backlash in the rawer, more “real” feel of grunge and stripped down alt-rock in the 90s.
Maybe that desire for reality will be one of the triggers for the AI bubble bursting.
