I never said that, don’t strawman me. Also i do not defend billionaires. But climate change is not a billionaire problem. Framing it as such while the whole western world is living so much above anything sustainable is just self-righteous.

And of course some emissions are really hard/nearly impossible to avoid when living in such a society. I’m no angel in that regard too. Also it’s hard to keep the motivation up while so many of us don’t even acknowledge the problem or just don’t give a shit.

But in my mind there are certain things which are just plain “shitting on the future”: Flying is one of those. And after this summer i’m done not speaking it out.

Sorry i didn’t read carefully enough. Thanks for pointing that out. So there’s a huge difference between the UK “national rail” and the US “commuter rail” in carbon emission (35g vs 214g per km, which is not so great again*). I guess this is because the US rail is much less electrified and runs mostly on diesel. Also a national rail train will stop less (and have to accelerate again) than a commuter train.

As i mentioned in another post in this thread a round trip transatlantic flight is almost a full year of what one person can emit (if we share it equally) to limit the warning to 1.5°C.

What breaking this limit means is easy accessible information. (No its not the apocalypse but is is shit)

A roundtrip flight from London to Dublin alone is already 25% of you yearly CO2 budget. From New York to Dublin its 80%.

Thank you for the reply. “Your” numbers are not in fuel/mile/person but in energy/mile/person. So an electric train is much better carbon emission wise than it suggests. I was aware that flights and ICE cars are equal-ish per distance, but the takeaway from this should be to not fly or ICE-drive long distances and not that flying is ok.

Flying is really bad and billionaires as well as common people alike should not be allowed to do it. I do not understand why we still have to discuss this.

Der Bus fährt nur zweimal am Tag weil eben alle mit dem eigenen Auto fahren. Zudem gibt es Alternativen (Fahrrad, Pedelec, Elektroroller, Elektroauto, Carpooling, in die Nähe des Arbeitsortes ziehen oder halt im schlimmsten Fall einen VW Up statt 3er bis gebrauchte e-Autos dann günstig genug sind).

Es stimmt, dass die Salatgurke aktuell “mit Diesel” angebaut wird. Das muss sich aber ändern. Hohe Spritpreise erhöhen den Druck dass sich da was tut.

Natürlich gibt es Fälle wo die Leute sich die Alternativen nicht leisten können und es aus anderen Gründen nicht anders geht. Oder Leute die finanziell so am Limit laufen, dass die umgangssprachliche teurere Salatgurke dem Fass den Boden schlägt. Denen will ich hier natürlich nichts vorwerfen.

Ja, je arschiger man lebt, desto teurer wirds. Find ich gut. Das erhöht den Druck auf die Supermärkte, Paketlieferer, Bahn und Kosumenten sich zu ändern. Niemand wird gezwungen zu Tanken und Waren zu kaufen welche von weit her transportiert werden.

Natürlich stört es mich, dass die Steuer gesenkt wurde. Aber weil die Steuer gesenkt wurde und nicht weil gleichzeitig keine Übergewinnsteuer erhoben wurde.
