Netflix is a threat to cinema culture and maybe to quality, if they change it to be based more on viewership numbers rather than quality. Also it is more concentration.

I wish WB would stay independent. I know they have a ton of debt from the at&t spinoff, but I think they’d have been able to survive long-term and also been big enough to compete with other streaming services.

Really sad to see them absorbed, especially after the year they had.

Although to his defense my understanding is that Peter Jackson came in late as a replacement and at least partially did it because otherswise many people would have been out of a job (presumably people in new Zealand that he knew well). Watching the behind the scenes extras imo show a quite stark contrast compared to the LotR trilogy.

Imo worse than just them being bad is the gap between their quality and the potential of what could have been.

Maybe in the sense that they were aiming to be a long epic similar to the LotR, rather than the fun adventure the book that the Hobbit book is. But i’d say that there are far more issues than just that.

It won’t just go up in price, imo they’ll at some point also start splitting up content and making it only available with certain price packages. (Apparently the cheapest ad supported plan already doesn’t include all content, so expect this to move up to higher price tiers aswell)

For me it might be the Hobbit Trilogy.

The LotR Trilogy are my all time favorite movies and the contrast couldn’t be greater. Really goes to show what a perfect storm it was that we got the movies we got with LotR.

But imo at its core it still has a good idea, unlike the sequels, which really are just style over substance. Which is why i can forgive the prequels quite a bit more, especially considering Geroge Lucas did try to get other directors onboard to make them.

Das Problem ist denke ich, dass Sabotage praktisch gratis ist relativ zum Aufwand alles zu schützen. Wenn man Anfängt dieses Spiel zu spielen hat man schon verloren. Weswegen es mMn eben so wichtig wäre an der Quelle anzusetzen, statt die Symptome zu bekämpfen.

Da hätten die Eigentümer wahrscheinlich lieber 10 Euro mehr für Objektschutz an kritischen Punkten gezahlt, über Steuern, als einmal zerstörte Heizleitungen auszutauschen.

Natürlich würde in so einem Fall jeder lieber 10 Euro zahlen, das ist genauso, wie jeder gerne die Versicherung hätte, wenn der Schadensfall Eintritt. In der Realität wären es aber denke ich deutlich mehr als 10€ und es müsste jeder zahlen. 99% der Leute wären nie betroffen und würden sich an den Kosten stören.

Was die Praxis Frage angeht ist es das gleiche: Wenn eine lokale Gegebenheit verhindert das man es ordentlich macht, kann man ja umbauen. Vielleicht keine gute Idee Starkstromkabel überirdisch zu verlegen wo man einfach dran kommt. “Ja unterirdisch verlegen ist so teuer”. Ja. Tja.

Ist aber halt einfach teuer siehe z.B. hier und dann hat man weiterhin das Problem, dass sich viele andere Schwachstellen nicht unterirdisch verlegen lassen. Allein hier würden wir über Milliarden reden (für neue Leitungen, nichtmal allen bestehenden) und dann wäre auch nur ein kleiner Teilaspekt geschützt.

Wie realistisch ist es denn alles ordentlich zu schützen? Sowohl von praktischer, als auch finanzieller Perspektive.

Ich glaube es gibt in unserer heutigen Gesellschaft so viele Vernetzugen, dass man kaum alles wirklich schützen kann. Wenn es nicht irgendein Strommast oder Umspannwerk ist, dann ist es Bahn Infrastruktur, das Wehr auf einem stark befahren Fluss oder sonst irgendwas.

Konkret in Bezug auf russische (oder sonst ausländische) Sabotage ist für mich das Problem, dass wir gefühlt bis heute immernoch keine wirklichen Konsequenzen als Gegenmaßnahmen haben.

Mal angenommen das hier waren die Russen, was ist dann unsere oder Europas Antwort? Ich habe das Gefühl Russland kann eigentlich relativ entspannt den Takt vorgeben.

That is sad to hear and based on the other replies it seems not too uncommon that something niche is missing.

Imo it’s really fascinating how music streaming is different in that regard compared to video streaming. Where more people are just happy with whatever e.g. Netflix offers them and don’t seem to mind too much, if one particular thing isn’t on their service.

But I guess the fact that in regards to music everyone has a slightly different taste and each one really wants that particular, different niche artist is what so far has prevented a similar fragmentation of services happening as we see with video.

Have you found the smaller selection to be an issue in practice? Because most of what’s on Spotify never gets played, so the raw numbers without context don’t really give an answer to how good the selection is.

Since Anna’s archive recently downloaded most of Spotify we got some context to the statistics. See for example here. Only a fraction of those 260 million get listened to. And the number alone doesn’t tell how many of the actually relevant tracks are on a streaming service.

I think for people wanting to switch off Spotify, but stay with something European, Qobuz could be worth a look as they are from France and have similar focus on better audio quality similar to tidal.

Yeah, and it certainly isn’t just china. Tom Scott had this video some years ago by now, that imo is a nice example how different a warehouse could look when it is designed for robots rather than humans.
