In my neighborhood the city just gives out a bunch of free balls to kids and there’s enough floating around that nobody feels the need to steal one. No maintenance cost, just the bulk price of basketballs once a year.

I still have a Powerslide CD though and it still plays great. You can also buy it on GOG, not sure if they got the music working on the GOG version, since the original plays music from CD.

Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•The City of Encinitas, California is removing a protected bike lane to replace it with a painted bike lane. Cost? $3 million. The mayor says it's a great idea. English
162·6 months agoI live in a city with poorly implemented protected lanes and I absolutely feel less visible and less safe in the protected lane when approaching intersections. It is very common for folks in cars making turns to just cut me off so that I have to slam on my brakes to avoid colliding with them. Protected lanes can be much safer, but to do it correctly you have to sacrifice a large chunk of parking near intersections. Car people don’t like to sacrifice those spaces.

Do-It-Yourself, Repairs and Fixes@lemmy.ml•Any quick suggestions for adding a bathroom exhaust fan to a small bathroom in an old house?English
5·1 year agoIdeally you want to put a fan in the ceiling and then duct as straight as you can out of the room. If your joists are running perpendicular to the wall you should be able to find a space that isn’t too bad to go straight out the wall. If you don’t want to cut into the ceiling, or there just isn’t enough space, Broan-Nutone also makes through-wall fans that are about as simple as it gets, this is what I have in my kitchen, and a lot of old homes have.

They absolutely are because they own the resale market too and get a cut of all those sales. They don’t have to actually do the scalping themselves, just not get in the way.
