  • He decided he had to make it someone else’s problem by needing to be let in, instead of simply affecting only himself (and you unfortunately). Bad decisions on my part should never be imposed on anyone else. And if more others behaved that way, we’d all have less problems.

We don’t need a sorry horn. We in the states need a significantly higher barrier to people getting and keeping a license. Cars are a privilege not a right and people should be reminded of that.

  • I feel you but let’s not throw the baby out with the bathwater. I have personally seen the radical positive change that can occur with people experiencing a new culture. They could have changed without it yes, but would they have? The cultural experience provides a valuable catalyst for change.

And I am with you on air travel - horribly polluting and we should eliminate it as a form of pleasure travel, limited to necessities. But trains are great for travel! I think getting out of your own cultural zone can be really important for some people.

I do think travel being limited by wealth is a problem to be tackled, via all workers having the right to take a yearly vacation (whether they travel or stay home) and fair compensation that allows people to cover life’s expenses and still build a savings.

Cross species introduction is hard and I really don’t know what to do there, and i know it’s vitally important from dealing with some invasive species where i’m at. Part of me wants to say stricter punishments and fines for people who violate, but then that depends on the inspection aspect. And I hate the idea of giving even more power to any government today. Maybe travel not being allowed between specific areas that have species with potential to cross-interact, but that would be insane to figure out in the first place and then keep it up-to-date. The more I think about it, the harder it is to solve.

Maybe you are right, though I really wish there was some way for travel to be completely ethical. But maybe that’s not universally possible.

  • After reading your description I had to look them up, and wow they fuckin rock! I started listening to a set they did on KEXP recently, just to try to get an idea of their sound. But I actually ended up listening to the whole thing. To answer your question, no I don’t think they’re trolling. They’re just a couple of lovely weirdos with mad skills.

Here’s a youtube link to the session if anyone else is interested.

  • I’ve never actually had a group to play with, but I have some advice just from the standpoint of group dynamics. It sounds like they have good intentions and poor execution; they want you to have a good time playing the game, so they try to point out pitfalls to avoid. (Edit to say maybe their intentions are selfish but I have better results generally when I assume good intentions). Unfortunately, they’re forgetting/not realizing that making mistakes to learn how a game works is actually more fun than just being given a complete guide. Maybe tie it back to the DM’s themes (mystery/exploration/the unknown) to make it stick better. Speaking of which, there’s nothing wrong with wanting something different; I would just be prepared to tell them what exactly that is. From their end, it can suck to be told your ideas aren’t fun without an alternative, but they need to understand everyone has different tastes.

If you want to stick around, I would try to approach things from that angle. I wouldn’t mention your feeling of holding the group together, it’s not likely to garner positive feelings (I think). Let them bring that up if they want, then address it.

Hope it goes well for you!

  • It’s very location-based for me. The dominos in my hometown is still good last time I checked. But the one near by me doesn’t give a shit about anything, and I can tell. Ordering from them is the on\y time I’ve ever opened up a freshly cooked pizza (still hot) and smelled rancid, rotting chicken. Absolutely fucking disgusting. So that location is burnt to me, until I see a sign about “new ownership/management”, but there are others I enjoy. It’s technically a franchise, but most locations are not owned by individuals but by a regional corporation, afaik.

edit And yes, it’s cheap-o greasy pizza, one ladder rung above lil ceasars (which is one rung above cardboard). But when I’m high as shit at midnight on a friday, it hits just right.
