AI is perfect for fueling a financial boom: great narrative, incredible promises in short and long term, huge needs and potential, and high risk that it will go terribly wrong. Bankers love that and can create unlimited credit to fuel the fire. But since they constantly create new gambling products, one can also bet that it’s not fueled enough and is about to crash. Total schizophrenia.
What sounded like impossible in absurdity few years ago seems to be today’s norm. Is that a competition of apocalyptic claims, a new religion? Sure there’s a service and the owner has costs, but it’s actually quite unrelated to the rental price in most places. I think the question is about the regulation of markets for basic life requirements. Alternatives aren’t very appealing IMHO: social aids (taxes on the rich), charity (by the rich), or persistent homelessness.

It’ s all well known, but the news is that they really did it.

Assuming you keep a critical eye on the results, surely AI can be used for some meaningful things like the ways you found - thanks for sharing them. But i could bet that most people will be stuck at the BS generator level with its poisonous effects on them and the society at large.
Not sure i understand the idea taking over an open source project when one can contribute or even fork it.
Anyway, it looks like France is quite Open Source friendly. For ex. the “DINUM” (gov. IT agency) has quite a few FOSS projects, finally could support financially Matrix, and there’s also quite a push for open data (https://www.data.gouv.fr/). About surveillance i suppose it’s quite bad indeed, but i don’t think it matters if the software has a licence like AGPL.
Finally, i doubt there’s a safe haven for privacy nowadays, but please prove me wrong :)
Freedom of expression was a great moto to grab power. Now: censorship of material already censored. I think most people slowly realize what’s going on thanks to moves like this. Do they?
As i understand, Linux is under a license (GPL) which explicitly prevents closing the reuse of its code. So it’s all about legal interpretation of “reuse” and so far the GPL stands up against abuses. I suppose that a company specifically targeting the source code for the intend of creating another OS might need to hire more lawyers than developers with far from certain results. But who knows, in a world where billions $ are free as soon as “AI” is mentioned in a business plan.
