Is it me, or is it kinda of odd that nixOS did not go full on nix with the init system? For example, setting up service with nix. Obviously systemd is fine for for me (please do not flame me systemd haters), but I wonder if the nix team thought of this idea.

NetBSD is more portable than Linux and supports a lot of CPU architectures. OpenBSD is secure by default. I think the BSD’S have jails, which are better containers, but I do not know much about it.

For desktop daily use, it only matters if you really want that Unix taste.

What about openBSD? I doubt the most secure OS would want llm code.

Is there another GPL OS instead? I am a fan of the GNU Hurd, but sadly I cannot run it on my hardware. The team of devs is really small, and it is amazing what they have done in all these years.

NetBSD already runs a lot of the satellites out there.

I love pkgsrc. Thought flatpak, snaps, and appimages solved fragmentation, well pkgsrc solved OS fragmentation across ALL UNIX-LIKE SYSTEMS. I want netBSD to keep working on their rumpkernels as well, so we run their drivers ON ANY OS.

I respectfully disagree. XFCE having the same experience is its main appeal.

I agree, and that is why I like xfce. I just would not really notice a difference if the project died or if it kept being developed. It is the same thing with lightdm. Until now, no one was maintaining lightdm. I did not even realize the project was rotting, and kept using it eventhough it was unmaintained since Ubuntu switched to GDM. In addition, I am still using Xorg eventhough it is dead, and it works fine.

I am aware that someone is implementing wayland in xfce, but that does not change the UX of xfce. I probably will not feel a difference in using wayland xfce compared to X11 xfce.

Projects don’t die because you and your cool friends decided that they are old news.

I think he is saying that xfce, budgie, and cinnamon served their purpose, and that there will be nothing innovative of them if we invested more money in them. I only agree with him on xfce, and not cinnamon and budgie. Xfce has been the same experience for a long time.

What if I do not use a desktop or a wm? The tty is comfy here.

I was referring to stable distros. But once you got all your games set up, aren’t you kinda good to go? But I get your point still, though.

I understand that you do not want to fiddle with a computer, I was once like that and that is what kept me from switching to any OS on my computer. I want to let you know as an experienced Linux user though that once you setup linux, you do not need to do any more fiddling. For the files and personal stuff, just back it up to an external hard drive. That is pretty much it. I could help you for free, but I do not really have somewhere to message anyone.

I understand. You can always increase your privacy with privacy-respecting tools, but qubes and tails are as private as you can get. I am just saying if you want to get more private then stop using the internet.
