The depositions come from a lawsuit the Modern Language Association, American Council of Learned Societies, and American Historical Association brought against the National Endowment for the Humanities and others over its cutting of hundreds of millions of grants. DOGE members Justin Fox and Nate Cavanaugh were a driving force behind those cuts. The deposition videos, which the MLA uploaded to YouTubeearlier this month, included depositions of Fox, Cavanaugh, and NEH officials Adam Wolfson and Michael McDonald.

The videos went viral when 404 Media and other outlets reported on their contents and clipped certain segments. Those included Fox not being able or unwilling to define DEI.

The AI generated search blurb is annoying but easy to scroll past (I usually use a cookieless browser so the dismissal option doesn’t work from session to session). What really annoys me are the AI generated websites that pop up as search results. All of them are formatted basically the same so it’s easy to spot after clicking in, but that wastes a lot of time vs previously being able to just scan the preview text.

If they word it like they did in the article I think asking their research question (asked to kids) was itself reinforcing a harmful understanding of gender and the kind of characteristics that can be applied to them. Individuals lie. Entire genders do not. Basically nothing applies across the entire category. In high school (the age of a lot of these respondents) they teach you to watch out for tricky multiple choice questions that sneak in an over inclusive option.
