I did not expect to be alone on this, but I scrolled through and didn’t see it:

I’m down to three living relatives: my father, a sister, and a brother. I can tell you the most recent photo each of those people has of me:

• My father - 7th grade yearbook photo from the '90s.
• My sister - When I was an usher at her wedding 15 years ago.
• My brother - A selfie I posed with him for on his first day of college 18 years ago.

I’ve occasionally been caught in candids or group photos with friends since then, but it’s very rare because I usually offer to shoot the photos for everyone else. And it’s not like my family know who my friends are or how to contact them.

Anyone remember when Assassin of Secrets came out 15 years ago? It was a detective novel that got middling reviews, but shortly after it came out, people realized that the whole book was plagiarized. Like, every word.

But the author didn’t rip it all from one other book. They took sentences, phrases, paragraphs from dozens of different detective novels. It was like a collage of other, better authors’ words copy-pasted into a weird amalgamation, a rough interpretation of the genre.

When that came out, the author was basically burned at the stake. Never had anything published again. The publisher had to refund booksellers. It was a whole to-do.

…I think about that book and how people reacted to it a lot when we talk about AI.

Publicly held corporations are obligated to serve their shareholders’ best interests, but executives are given tons of leeway and the benefit of the doubt in both how that goal is defined and how they choose to pursue it.

The Dodge v Ford case that established the idea of shareholder primacy was back in 1919. America’s entire Golden Age of manufacturing came after that decision. If companies were charged with only providing quarterly profits, then there wouldn’t have been decades of corporate reinvestment and expansion, employee training and education, narrower exec-to-employee pay gaps, or any of the other things people seemed to love about pre-Reagan America.

None of these companies have a legal obligation to be shitty. They’re just incentivized because nobody says or does anything.

Gerrymandering and disenfranchisement means this is heavily affecting people who didn’t vote for Trump, did not want this, and understand the value and need for a social safety net. But I’m glad you’re doing okay.

Them both being men isn’t what makes this funny. The player being forced to seduce someone they don’t find attractive is what’s funny. This has been a trope forever. There’s, like, three different layers of the exact same conflict/joke in Shrek, none of which include same-sex couples (unless you think Shrek and Donkey are more than just roommates).

The real offense here is a DM stripping agency from their player for a laugh. The player is clearly not being a good sport about it, and this type of behavior can feel like bullying and absolutely wreck a playgroup.
