Uncommon, sure, but definitely not unprecedented these days. Hurricane Michael destroyed the gulf coast back in 2018, category 5

Yeah, I think it has to be that. Just sucks that people who cared so much get overwhelmed to the point of giving up.
The wildest to me is how far some people have swung back.
The person who, back in 2021/22, would walk out of their way in the hallway to keep 6 feet of distance between us, who has two kids at home both younger than 3, doesn’t take any precautions anymore. Or the guy who wore aura respirators before anyone else and did everything on zoom until 2023, I never see wearing a mask anymore. Or people I organize with who actively refuse to wear a mask, even at actions. It’s just so strange.
Man, I’ve definitely noticed I’m a lot more tired these days. As far as I know I’ve only had it once, so who knows, but it definitely makes me wonder.

I think this other one works well here too. A little more explicitly focused on the hysterical narratives chuds indulge themselves in

This plus @Wertheimer@hexbear.net’s comment above is a crazy shot+chaser

Just finished season 1 of the X-Files last night.
Absolutely loving it. Incredible balance of seriousness and goofiness. The intro sequence makes me laugh every time, and Hulu won’t let you skip it, which is even funnier. I find myself rewinding to watch some of the more clever shots again, just to appreciate them. The writing is great. The will-they-won’t-they of scully and mulder is so crazy. It’s hilarious when they talk about the feds like they aren’t literally FBI agents. Was talking about it with my colleague and turns out it’s his favorite show of all time, he’s even got the “i want to believe” poster in his house. Very excited to keep watching, especially once October hits and it feels spookier.
Unfortunately it looks like the second article is a compilation of listener submissions. BUT I would imagine the project was driven by the hosts’ personal lives.
When I walk (or more typically, drive ) around my city I’m always struck by just how much there needs to be done, and how much effort, time, and energy is wasted on meaningless bullshit. So much new infrastructure needs to be built out, but there’s SO much maintenance work that just goes undone because it’s not prioritized. “Sorry, we can’t maintain the green spaces that we have, let alone build new ones, we gotta bulldoze that homeless camp again.”
I’d agree with all of your suggestions, except maybe the cold brew maker. I’ve found using a french press works pretty much just as well and you can make hot coffee in it too!
The real curveball, that honestly might be unnecessary, is a new shower head. My last place had an awful one, it would push out a ton of water really haphazardly. The QoL upgrade when I finally (after 1.5 years of suffering) bought and installed my own was kind of upsetting. I got better pressure, better coverage, and the hot water lasted longer since it was using less. For $20 and a few minutes of install my life got so much better. And if you have the ceiling space, I think an extender isn’t a bad idea either: you can sort of get the “waterfall” effect without splurging on a high end showerhead.
