Astrology is fun if you don’t take it seriously. Same with tarot. I’m a 100% atheist but I do a tarot reading every night before bed to help with abstract reflection on the day. It means nothing, but it’s makes me look at things from a different angle.

If she wants to do a star chart for you then just relax and have fun. It’s a way for you two to talk about your lives and a conversation starter. She likes you dude, and if you take the opportunity to lecture about why this is silly then are really doing is sending red flags that you’ll talk down to her whenever you might disagree.

Edit: I see a lot of self reporting for thinking others are inferior for enjoying these things. Y’all should rethink your biases perhaps. But I am walking away and ignoring this thread now, I have reached my daily intake of sodium chloride for the day.

While I agree, and also do the occasional tarot reading for fun, some people actually believe they can deduce divine factual information about you from your date and time of birth. To me that’s a bit of a yellow flag that they might have other dangerous anti-science beliefs.

That’s not a yellow flag, that a flashing red flag. It tells you that they will probably believe all the quasi scientific-sounding fads that come up, and also that they are not good at critical thinking.

Yeah, i didn’t explain myself very well. What I meant was being into astrology is a yellow flag, so you have to find out if they enjoy it a bit as a hobby, which is fine, or if they’re “true believer” into it, which is not fine.

You are making a ton of assumptions based on stereotype. Not all people with tarot decks and star charts are anti Vax flat earthers. Just like not all Christians are pro life bigots. You are painting with a extraordinarly broad brush.

If you truly believe that your date and time of birth has any relation to your personality traits, them the only thing I am assuming is that you are a moron. I didn’t say anything about anti-vax or flat-earthers, though they are also morons.

Well, most people don’t literally think that. There is a reason most horoscopes just use different adjectives for the same couple of things. Honestly, I feel like you are kinda self reporting for that “talking down” red flag I was speaking about originally. I don’t want to argue, you do you. But I just think you should show a bit more respect for people with different past times instead of assuming the worst of them. It’s a fun way to look at the world, nothing more.

I mean, I can. And get a baseline expectation on some others.

Of course, the thing I can deduce is your age, and the baseline expectations would be those associated with the generation you belong to. So, less astrology and more basic math.

I mean, by your own reasoning though it’s at least a yellow flag - if she’s just doing it because she thought it might be fun and cute, then yeah knock yourself out - if she looks at you seriously and says shit like “I need to make your star chart so I know if we’re compatible and whether or not we have a future together”, then I’d personally nope out of there

If someone starts doing my star chart, that’s a blood red flag that we are going to disagree all the goddammit time and it just isn’t worth it.

As respectfully and nicely as I can say this, I think you are making a lot of assumptions about people who enjoy this things. I don’t mean to be rude or speak with malice, but this sounds like a intolerant opinion based on stereotypes and is a close minded mean spirited thing to assume.

I agree, but the problem is that a lot of people do take it seriously. It’s perfectly fine to enjoy these things if you just think they’re fun. But actually believing in things that are demonstrably wrong is definitely a huge red flag for me. I’ve also become extremely negative towards astrology in particular because I’ve had to deal with family who used to take it at face value and also because I love astronomy, which, to me, gets tainted by this pseudoscience nonsense that sort of imitates it.

Astrology, tarot, etc are essentially just guided meditation. An option to think about yourself deeply for a while, and possibly more accessible and doable for certain types of people. The problems only arise when fraudsters use it for fraud.

        100%.

Anyone who wants money for these “services” is absolutely an asshole. But I think the same for anyone who charges for “prayers” or “divine healing”.

Or you could just talk about your lives like normal people do.

Astrology and any other religion/spirituality stuff itself is a flapping red flag.

Your approach is so refreshing. My partner is huge into tarot and believes that it allows him to receive guidance from his late husband. I figure it doesn’t harm anything for him to feel that his husband is still close, plus it gives him time to reflect on recent events.

Why don’t you skip the tarot reading 🃏 and just get straight to the abstract reflection on the day? 🤔

It means nothing, but it’s makes me look at things from a different angle.

Aren’t there other ways to do that? 🫤 Why not just listen to Sam Harris’ Waking up? 🎵 No woo needed. 😀

Edit: Downvotes for asking questions, why? Did I come off harsh? I’ve sprinkled emojis in to help soften the blow. 🤡

Because its fun to have a prompt? Idk. I suppose there are other ways, but this is the one I enjoy. Mostly for the different art styles.

You do you if Harris works for ya, I won’t judge. But I personally didn’t like the couple of episodes of common sense I listened to. I get the appeal, but wasn’t for me.

Because it gives what is essentially a random prompt to start from? Also some tarot decks have neat art, I’m fond of the Crowley Thoth Tarot because it’s just cool looking.
