    O captain my captain.

Editors note: the rest is just anecdotes from my time in retail. I don’t get to tell these often, so here they are.

As I get older, the more I’m willing to get in creeps faces for mistreating younger employees, especially if it’s someone trying to take advantage of some physical trait (presented gender, size, weight, etc) I completely lose my shit.

I’m surprised I’ve never seen myself in a video because I’ve been filmed screaming at guys to get the fuck out of the store, stop fucking recording 16 year Olds, and if hes still here in 20 seconds I’m calling the cops.

One guy figured he’d start knocking shit off shelves on his way out, so I just pull out my phone get pictures, got a few of his car as he pulls out, sent them to my manager and when I came in the next morning he had been arrested, cops had been by to collect camera footage, and were very interested to find out he was recording minors. Never heard anything after that, but you never want pigs digging into your life regardless of whether you’ve done anything wrong or not.

I’ve taken the phone from barely-holding-it-together employees who were on the verge of tears because someone was yelling at them on the phone. The last time it happened, it was the poor girls first day on the job, she still didn’t know where anything was, and someone put her in charge of a phone call with a nasty older man who apparently started out with a raised voice. So as I pass her, and see her frozen in place with tears streaming down her face, I can hear the guy screaming and distinctly heard “fucking dumbass cunt” as I took the handset. “You can shut the fuck up now asshole. You do not speak to anyone this way, let alone a literal child. If you call back, it will be considered harassment and treated as such by the company lawyers. If you ever speak that way in person here keep in mind you’ve got about 20 guys within earshot who view everyone like siblings, and won’t hesitate to protect them.” and hung up.

One time, a guy walked past one minor who was rearranging the basketball display, and says “I bet you’re an expert with balls aren’t you” she gets uncomfortable and goes to clothing areas, where he follows. Eventually he gets some clothes he apparently wants to try on, she unlocks the door for him, and immediately goes on the radio asking what she should do because he’s still following her. Well, the store was nearly closed anyways we just put away the open signs, started shutting down the extra customer lights, and every guy in the building decided to fold clothing right outside this guy’s fitting room. After about 5 minutes he starts yelling from inside as he’s walking out “ay baby how about you come give me…” and stops talking as he sees about 10 guys of varying athleticism and general size, from dad bod to “the Mountain”, staring him down with the most “finish that statement and lose tour teeth” looks. He sprinted into the locked door, and had to figure out which door was still open for the two or three people still inside. That was the first time I had gotten a hug from someone in probably a decade. I didn’t particularly like this girl, super extra and arrogant like most teens, had talked shit about me personally before, but nobody deserves to be living in fear of things like that.

Hey hero, what does ≪3 mean?

Huh. Should have looked it up before asking. It’s a less than 3, a heart. Wonder why it renders the html character code for me. Looks like it’s Connect for Lemmy; it showed up fine in the browser. Fun, I’ll make a bug report.
