To be honest. Windows XP is probably still good to use just with a decent router. most router firewalls are good enough on there own to keep out nasties. Other than that the best antivirus is common sense.
Good luck with software compatibility. The latest web-browser you can run on Windows XP is probably 10 years out of date by now and riddled with exploits, same with network share protocols, printer drives, etc. Your router will not protect you of attacs using port 443 or 80. Same for antivirus software, where are you going to find an updated one working on XP?
I would love someone to develop Linux distribution that looks and works like XP. oh the nostalgia. Best of both worlds world’s best UI and based off linux preferably something nice and easy like Debian or Ubuntu. To help windows users get familiar with Linux
