Yesterday, July 1st, they announced the Alpha release of this next-generation mod manager and their new Product Manager got in touch to mention they “would be really keen to get feedback from Linux users”. So this is your chance to ensure Linux (and Steam Deck) finally become a first-class citizen for game modding.

I tried this out, I was unable to log in with Firefox or Chromium. It appears the only games that it supports in this alpha are Stardew Valley and Cyberpunk 2077. I have Stardew Valley installed and it finds it.

It’s a good start, though. I hope this gets updated soon.

Just install Linux on your laptop or desktop.

If you want a hassle-free setup, get Linux Mint, or if you use Nvidia, Pop!_OS.

To get as close to the Steam Deck setup as reasonable, get EndeavourOS with KDE. It is Arch-based and may require maintenance though.

Kubuntu is a good middle ground, with the same desktop interface as SteamOS (KDE) but also pretty hassle-free setup.

I use kubuntu with nvidia and it works really well. The only issue I have is stuttering on games with a locked framerate lower than my monitor refresh rate. I was able to fix the stuttering on elden ring with mods and so far that is the only game that has been wonky about it.

Software-wise, if you are using a Linux installation with KDE interface, on an AMD CPU and AMD GPU, and are using a wayland session with gamescope to play games, it is very VERY close to the Steam Deck and you are benefiting from all the optimizations that were made for Steam Deck. Bonus points if the hardware is Ryzen 3000 series and Radeon RX 6000 series.

You probably saw this, but Nexus Mods are asking feedback from Linux users, not just Steam Deck. Because, you know, apart from the sticks, size and touch pads, Steam Deck is just another Linux machine.

if you have an amd gpu and install bazzite its basically the steamos version valve hasn’t released yet but with a fedora base instead of arch. I wouldn’t actually do the deck image though because game mode is kinda annoying unless controller really is your primary input. I use the desktop image on all my computers that aren’t server use.

I just screwed myself so hard. Was OP buff as hell warrior class. Killed the final boss with ease, went back up to level 1, and …couldn’t leave. I’d forgotten to go grab the dumb amulet and didn’t even notice I wasn’t healing on the boss stages on the way back up.

Went all the way back down, grabbed the amulet, started going back up again but at that point I was running low on food. Then due to a quick series of absolute bs and bad luck I got killed. Ruined a fantastic run that I thought was in the bag.

Oh nooooooo! Wow that sucks but its really impressive you crawled that entire dungeon three times (down up down).

I don’t bother with the challenge ascent, since I don’t want to ruin a win. I want to do it someday but for now I just end the game with the amulet.

Is not even that hard really it does not spawn many champions so they are just tougher only. Challenge yog is harder.

I gotta go all the way! Lol. So far I’m 2/48 now. Beat with the mage first, then warrior just today. Next up will be Rogue. After I win with every hero it’s going to be time to retire and play other games again. I think the last three hero wins will go a lot faster than the first two. I have a great grasp of the game, now.

Hah respect. Please update me when you finish!

I’ve beaten it with the four base classes but not the dualist, and not since the “ascent” feature was added. Its a good timewaster. Though, I wish I used alchemy and spells more…

Will do. I started a rogue run just a bit ago and I hope I don’t screw it up, cause I got a crazy good level 3 blasting wand drop on floor 1 or 2. Huge benefit to rogue it seems. I’ve never even had a level 3 wand drop on me in my last 48 games.

I already learnt that you have to keep an eye on the amulet debuff. One time I got up a level and as I didn’t sqw it I gone “ooops” and gone back.

Cross platform now!? Oh happy day! As time moves on I find less and less that would force me to hold on to this Win10 install just for gaming. One of those things was “Aw but their mod manager was really good.”

I never really used their previous client. I liked the control of doing it manually and found it got in the way.

I’m glad to hear they’re working Linux support in to this new version though.

Idk what that is. This is about that mod where some dude wanted all the relationships in BG3 to be straight couples. Nexus mods is okay with all the relationships being gay, but not all of them being straight? The hypocrisy is ridiculous. We can’t have our fantasy play time be dictated by other people, so why should they?

Edit: It might have been Skyrim. Not sure. Either way, people should get to do whatever they like in the privacy of their homes with whatever shapes please them, and it shouldn’t be up to Nexus mods to say which communities can share their fantasy shit and which can’t do long as they’re positioned as the primary access point for the whole modding scene. It’s literally discrimination. Those who say otherwise are probably the same trolls that say only men can rape.

It seriously sounds like you’re trolling. People could do that already! The addition of the mod does LITERALLY THE OPPOSITE OF WHAT YOU’RE SAYING IT DOES. The existence of gay characters doesn’t FORCE you to be gay around them.

Thanks for self reporting so hard though.

I’ve got no problem with the gay mods bro. I’m bi. I’ve got a problem with “it’s ok when it’s gay but not when it’s straight”. That’s exclusion. Doing it back to them is not justice.

I don’t generally feel the need to mod sex into my games anyhow. I want that college of winterhold and extra spells and shit. I’ve got other games for sex.

Yeah, no. Allowing this kind of fuckwittery excludes other people from the platform. How do you think the average minority player feels when people create mods specifically to turn non-white characters white? If you want these things available, go ahead and create your own platform - but don’t force others to swallow your racist, sexist bullshit.

Or, to make it short: too bad you feel discriminated against while trying to discriminate against others.

How do you feel when someone turns everything not Shrek into Shrek? Who gives a damn? Nexus didn’t pull rank with the BG3 mod that makes everyone gay. The fact that one group in the category is bigger than the other doesn’t matter. That’s just discriminating specifically against the majority which makes no more sense than discriminating against the minority. Pick a stance that isn’t hypocritical. You can have your all gay wonderland but they can’t have their all straight wonderland? Get fucked. Get fucked however you like. I’m personally only interested in gameplay and graphical improvements, but I won’t waste a moment dealing with a discriminatory host like Nexus.
