I read the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy in like 3rd or 4th grade (my mom loved them and wanted to share). There’s one line describing a “triple-breasted whore of Eroticon Six” which was, at the tender age of ten or so, the first time I’d encountered the word “whore”. I pronounced it phonetically with the leading “w” for years before someone corrected me. Not that it came up often, being the kind of ten-year-old who reads stuff like that. But still.

Every now and then I still read it that way in my head and chuckle.

A warrior does not care about the trivialities of speech and learning. Make fun of my speech at your peril, petaQ.

My mother made fun of me for saying segue incorrectly as a child and that made me never do it to someone else. I just try to work the word they used into a sentence so they can hear the pronunciation I know. Heck, I might be the incorrect one and get a free lesson so it’s win-win.

This came up recent in a video I watched where they were talking about sidereal vs solar days. I always pronounced it as a two syllable side - real but apparently it’s more like a three syllable side aerial .

    English is tough.
